Thanks again for all the feedback, it genuinely helped shape this update!
I think you should definitely keep working on it after the jam. It has a lot of potential to become a really great game. Well done!
Thanks! Really appreciate that. I'll definitely be polishing and expanding it after the jam. Thanks for playing
It's fortunate that this browser game has a full-screen button, otherwise the only way to make it big enough is the less-intuitive web browser zoom in settings (which I found to work). I think the view lurches a bit too much when you change lanes though.
Aside from that, the game has a degree of addictive nature and I like the atmosphere that emanates from the title screen. But I also have to point out that I got flooded with vehicles in my latest run about "one level" into it, to the point where there was no dodging vehicles to be had, and when I think about it, that basically makes it a potential early-game killscreen. You know I love a good killscreen but the one I got happened very early, even if I think it was just by chance.
I saw some enemy cars go through other cars during my runs, and I think it would be very interesting and more appropriate if those cars crashed into each other, in the event that cars getting in each other's ways can't be rewritten or avoided. You know, like car infighting. I love a bit of video game infighting. If errant enemy cars that go straight up to other cars in this game crashed into them, you would get extra brownie points from me for that alone. Most devs probably would have skipped the car infighting and just tried really hard to prevent cars from appearing in opposite directions down the same lane. I think either solution would have been very acceptable, myself.
Thanks for the detailed feedback! I'll be improving the traffic spawning and camera movement, and I'll look at making the game scale better on desktop too. Appreciate you taking the time to play!
The title screen is superb. A military truck in the rain on a motorway at night, headlights in the background, END-EX in military green. It sets a very specific "driving home exhausted" mood before you press anything.
The truck panel on the right with SPEED, FUEL, TEMP and OIL gauges is a great idea, you're not just dodging traffic, you're managing a vehicle that's dying under you. And the tutorial is genuinely well done, integrated and progressive: tap left to switch lane, then tap right, then hold bottom to accelerate, then collect pickups. One thing at a time. The end screen with BROKE DOWN, "Recovery has been dispatched", ENGINE DESTROYED and the distance travelled keeps the military register consistent from start to finish, and having a separate HIGH SCORES menu is the right call for this jam.
The number one problem is that the game is far too dark. Once the run starts, the road, the panel and the gauges are almost black. I could barely read the FUEL and SPEED numbers and I never spotted a single pickup on screen. I understand the night road idea, but it needs a lot more brightness and contrast. Because I couldn't see anything, the engine blew at around 1106m without me being able to react to anything.
Smaller one: the tap regions work great for mobile, but on PC it would help to also accept the arrow keys. A brightness slider alone would rescue the whole experience.
Thank you! I'm really glad the atmosphere and tutorial landed well. I'll definitely be brightening things up and adding keyboard controls in a future update. Thanks for the great feedback!
As a retired combat vet, I approve this game.
Thank you for you service! Still serving in the British army myself, I really appreciate it, and thanks for giving it a go!
Good game!
The screen is too little /:
I second that point about the game canvas size. The title screen is reportedly amazing, yet I could hardly see what it was like, and couldn't at all read what the text said. I was wondering if somebody else was going to bring it up. I'm gonna try again but with Ctrl + to resize my browser graphics.
Thanks for playing! I'll be increasing the game size in a future update to make it easier to see.
This is was fun, but my eyes got hurt whenever the car changes lanes.
Thanks for the feedback! I'll tone down the lane-change movement to make it much easier on the eyes
cool stuff
Thank you! Really appreciate you giving it a play!
Simple and tough! Well done )
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it, and thanks for playing!
this reminds me of an old flash game i used to play where you'd jump on top of different moving cars. i love this, keep it up!
Haha, I know exactly the kind of game you mean! Thanks so much, and I'm glad you enjoyed it!
