Hi Magma! Perhaps we need to change the wording for mimics in the book. They are a pure breed clown that cannot breed with any other breed of Clown. So a mimic is always a pure breed mimic.
Every mimic has unique needs, it is always safe to put them in the zoo, however there is a chance you can safely place them with a family.
