Not a super unique take on the theme but one executed really well. I love the art style, and the music fit the mood and goes incredibly hard. I also really enjoyed stringing together the various movement mechanics and the various obstacles.
I do have a few small nitpicks though:
Though despite those, overall I still had a great time. The whole package was very well put together and I wish I could've seen the final cutscene properly.
Good game, but its making me rageeeeee
Love a good pixel platformer! Art is great, music is solid, and the glide is implemented well. Just wish I didn't have to start so far back each time. Still... it kept me playing. Great work!
The lack of checkpoints is a bit tough, but the platforming controls are great! (Did cheese the first feather by pressing shift when falling after restart lol...)
the music is such a vibe! great job! controlling the phoenix felt good, the only thing that was kinda hard to use was the air pocket areas that would shoot you up, sometimes i would shoot all the way up and other times i wouldnt go high enough and would have to waste a lot of time trying to get all the way up or just die to spikes :)
wouldve liked checkpoints too but it was hardcore mode haha, i didnt get to the feathers, only got past the part with a bunch of wind thingys.
Thanks for playing! I didn't make the music, I just found it on OpenGameArt.org and thought it matched the vibe of the game. It's made by Juhani Julanka, if you're curious. I'll try to tweak the geysers for the post-jam version of the game so that they're a bit easier to control yourself in, and I'll also try to add some checkpoints too.
Like the glide mechanic. Sadly not great at platformers, but I feel like the controls placement or behavior is kinda rough. But I could see it being expanded into a nice game like a platformer style of a short hike.
Thanks for playing! I'll arrange the controls to be more intuitive after the jam as that was a common complaint. Thrilled to hear that you've enjoyed it!
Flaming chickens. This is what I'm talking about!
Pretty cool game tho i bit frustrating i must say lol, the bg music gets a bit annoying tbh but i loved the world design and different mechanics u have in the game i would suggest the double jump combo (W + space bar) to be double space bar cause pressing W and then shift to fly and then space to get more air its super hard and tricky and another suggestion would be CHECKPOINTS that would be really good, but overall really awesome game.
Thanks for the feedback, it'll really help me polish the game more after the jam! I'll be sure to add options for the volume of the music as a few people felt that it was too loud as well, and I'll make sure that the controls are more intuitive too. I'm happy to hear that you've enjoyed the levels that I've made for the game and the mechanics I've made. As for the checkpoints, I'll definitely add those as soon as possible, in fact I've talked about a sort of rating system in a previous comment based on whether you choose to play with checkpoints or not. Have a good day!
quite an intense experience with the music haha
maybe one or two checkpoints before the feather would have been nice as you try to master the movements but have to restart all over at each fail
well done
Thanks, glad to hear you've enjoyed it! I was considering adding a sort of "rating system" where you'd pick if you'd like to do a full run for a higher rank or enable checkpoints for a lower one, but I ran out of time. I think I'll add that after the jam is finished.
Nice game! It took me a few goes to understand how the "shift" key actually slows your fall, but once I understood that, it was quite nice! (Though I must say, platformers aren't my strength, so I didn't actually manage to beat it xD). But overall, great experience :)
Glad to hear you've enjoyed it!
It's an interesting platform and I really like the "shift to slow your fall" gimmick. The character did feel a bit clunky to control, but I played for a bit regardless
Thanks for the feedback! I'll try to improve the character controls if I come back to it.
