Okay, this could be fully fledged game on steam that can be bought. The art is simple yet appeals to the eye, The puzzles were amazing to play, I've only had time to play to the 17th level, but I will finish the game later, there were a lot of interesting puzzles, that really made me think, especially the 9th and the 14th the the level with 4 Knights for each side. One little nitpick is that this game is made around chess, which could be counterintuitive that some cards allow to capture the allied figure. Nudging the player or giving him a small tip about that would really help, I was stuck at level 9 thinking it was impossible, so I've pushed the next levels (tysm for allowing to play next levels wihtout completing the one beforehand, I think that allowed to better familiarize with the game mechanics there and just gave me more fun) to by mistake discover that the cards that replay the move allow the figure to do the friendly fire. There is a lot of interesting interactions happening, and I can say that this might be the best puzzle game of the enitre jam for me. I will expand the review when I fully complete the game. But for now, very good job !!!

Very clever puzzles! I just meant to check this out for a few minutes before I went to bed but I had to keep playing the next one.
I play chess regularly and I can say this game really surprised me. unlike many chess games that only copy look of chess, your game has the same strategic thinking and planning as chess. Everything feels polished and I really enjoyed it. Good job!
It's a nice chess puzzle game with interesting card mechanics. I like this sort of game. It was fun. The music, visuals, and animations feel good. Maybe the level selection UI needs some improvement.
This is a lovely jam entry!! I genuinely had a lot of fun, and there's so many cool ideas. I didn't do all of the levels yet, but I added it to my list of to-play, so I'll play it soon :)
Also, menus and transitions are so fresh! Congrats on the submission, it was amazing :>
I think this might be one of the best games I've played in game jams. I couldn't finish it all for now, but since it has saves I'll probably continue playing it one of these days.
Fun way to implement theme to a chess puzzle. smoothly working. Good Job!
Some very nicely designed puzzles!
Well done!
Love so much about this! Great chess puzzles, really polished, amazing work! Wouldn't let me play the London system but we can forgive that, congratulations!
Absolutely love both the artwork and gameplay of this! Great job!
Crazy game! It feels very polished, and the central idea is really clever. I like chess-inspired games, and this one was a particularly creative take on the concept. Using Gambit to move an opponent’s piece was a great aha moment.
it is especially impressive, that you not only came up with a great concept that fits the jam, but ALSO made interesting and expectation-subverting puzzles with it. These two things do not always come together!
some small things of confusion: 1: i think i do not get cascade. In level 3, it let me move the bishop three times, but when i moved the pawn first, it only let me move 2 times?
2: i expected adrenaline to work in that way that you move, capture and if you captured, you move again, but i think it means the move prior?
unfortunately, i now have to go to work and only finished like 8 levels, but i will come back!
Thanks for playing! To clarify those cards:
- Cards that have X printed on them care about the counter. So if the counter is on 3 when you play Cascade, you get 3 moves, and if it's on 2, you get 2 moves. I really should have made a numerical value show up on the card that gets dynamically updated as you play more cards... that's some polish I didn't get to.
- For Adrenaline, if a piece has ever captured before you play the card, it gets two moves. Otherwise, it gets one. It originally worked the way you described, but this made it too difficult to design puzzles around it, so it got tweaked to the current version. You'll notice pieces that get two moves with it get highlighted in orange when Adrenaline is selected.
In hindsight (and funnily enough, after watching a GMTK video) I realized I probably could have made a couple more simple introductory puzzles to clarify the game mechanics more, given that they aren't really explained anywhere. It is tricky for e.g. Cascade though, as designing a puzzle where getting fewer moves is useful is actually very tricky.
Really Cool puzzles and a great scene transition! :)
Love it. Great puzzles! I'll never skip over a chess jam submission
Chess meets slay the spire. Now that's what a call a good jam entry!
The amount of content and polish done for a such short time by one person is realy impressive. I wish i colud do the same(
The puzzels also good, however rules of wich card on wich pice can be used, sometimes, unclear. Like, why i cant use STEP card on white in lvl8?
Thanks for playing! The Step card says "Move a piece," not "Move ANY piece," so it can only move your pieces (i.e. the black pieces). Perhaps I should have worded it as "Move one of your pieces" or "Move a black piece" -- I initially thought I wouldn't have room on the cards if I used this wording style, but now that the jam's over I'm not sure that's true.
Great game. I'm not usually a fan of chess games, but I found myself playing this one for quite a while. Good work!
