How does your game fit the theme?
My game is a digital-themed platformer where you have to survive a countdown of 10 seconds on each level rather than progressing left to right, making it more strategic than if I were not to follow the theme.

(Optional) Please credit all assets you've used
All assets were created by myself, I used the Construct 3 (game engine) and Bosca Ceoil (music) and created all the assets, music, and visual effects for my music

(Optional) What would you like to be called if GMTK features your game?

The game is a bit too hard for me to catch on, sadly, but the concept is really great, with maybe better controls (you already put coyote time and I can't thank you enough for that).

The rules explained through pseudocode text is really original.

Thanks for the feedback, and I fully agree about the difficulty, much of the feedback has been either a comment of many deaths or a complaint about the difficulty, and I will use this for future games I make. I wish I got some feedback comments on the difficulty before the submissions closed. Glad to see you liked the concept and text though!

Interesting idea, took a while to figure out some levels. Good job!

Developer

Thanks!

This is really difficult, but I actually enjoyed it, got to level 3:

Thanks for playing, and I agree, it’s definitely hard, I think I playtested way too much which made me think it was not so bad and I got no comments about it before submissions closed :/ glad you enjoyed it!

This was really cool! I thought level 2 was harder than level 3 lol. I had a great time though--how did you get that shaded/glowing look in Construct? I've worked in the engine before but have never seen this kind of retro simulation-y vibe before. I really liked how unique your idea was and reading the code to figure stuff out was fun. I gave up on death number 300, but great work!

Developer

Thanks for playing and I’m glad you enjoyed it overall!

As for the shaded/glowing effect, I made each sprites outline start opaque and made each following layer have a lower alpha value - the inside of most objects actually was not coloured at all, instead using the background colour. I also added an extra glow horizontal effect for the player to make them stand out a bit more.

As for the difficult that’s on me, I still need more experience to find a good balance of creativity and difficulty.

Interesting—it turned out really nice. I’ll give it a shot next time I make pixel art as I usually leave alpha at 100% :)

At first, I didn't quite get the hang of it, but after trying a few times, I suddenly figured out how to beat the level. There are some really interesting little design touches—I really like them.

A really interesting concept! Most of the levels are designed so cleverly that I genuinely have no idea how the developer managed to put them together. Everything feels carefully planned down to the smallest detail, and I couldn't find any way to break the intended sequence.

The game is difficult, but it always feels fair and understandable. After a couple of attempts, you usually figure out what the game expects from you, so you never have to play that frustrating game of “guess what the developer was thinking.”

885 attempts xD

Thank you so much! I’m glad you appreciate the more “death is an important learning experience” style I was going for. I agree it’s still too difficult, this project has shown me that only self play testing is not very good for balancing.

Nice game, fit very well with the theme. Personally I think the red box is very difficult to see and level design could need an improvement. Keep up the good work dude  <3

Thanks for the feedback!

Without a doubt, this game has solid mechanics. My only criticisms are the level design and how the game introduces its controls. Other than that, it's a great game.

Developer

Noted, thank you for letting me know and I'm glad you enjoyed it :D

I found the controls to be pretty clunky and difficult to use.

Developer

Reasonable I am pretty new to development, ill remember that for future projects

Hey! Wow, I certainly have thoughts for this one. I was initially a touch confused (which I imagine was the idea), but there was definitely an "aha" moment as I replayed each level a few times to get the hang of it.

In particular, while the gravity of the player took some getting used to, there's something very satisfying about moving around and the sound effects give it a lot of extra weight and oomph.

My biggest request, from a player's perspective, would be asking for some sort of visual feedback for the platforms disappearing? I did manage to get a hang of it intuitively, but having some sort of visual to know when they're about to disappear would be greatly appreciated.

That said, nice work!

Developer

Thanks, and yes the indication was the biggest problem throughout the project unfortunately I didn't get enough feedback on it before submission. Glad to see you liked it overall :D
