Gameplay is simple and very understandable, mechanics build on it well, pleasant simplistic graphics, good music.
Suggestion - cards score should be shown without needing to put mouse on them.
Thank you so much! I really appreciate the feedback!.
Several people have mentioned the same thing. I will probably need to do that!
Refreshing to have a game that is not time-based. I also think you're not giving yourself enough credit by saying the visuals are just the shader you downloaded. There's a lot of tweaking and color work there that make it come together to a very cohesive image.
However, at a mechanical level, a lot of plays feel forced. I assume the game opens up when you get more perks, but it could also be a little more complex in the early game. It feels like its missing some core system to pull it together.
Thanks, homie! I did do a lot of tweaking haha I appreciate it!
I agree that there needs to be one more systemic like "hook." I think it will take some experimenting to really make it a complete game.
Yea real hard game lol, it's also hard to strategize with most of the combo upgrades because it's difficult to calculate that far ahead what the optimal combination unless I check all of them. Maybe would be cool if it automatically did the best order for you, or if the upgrades were easier to track. Had them all except for Easy As (As were too OP so I didn't buy) and still didn't come close to beating it. Still super fun though, great concept!
Thanks so much! Yeah, I think it is too hard to track what you have and too hard to strategize. Definitely need to make that aspect of it easier. The game is also too long as it is. If it's beatable, it will take a really long time to beat.
very cool visuals and lots of polish! after a while i ended up just playing cards in order and hoping the last card has an upgrade that lets you play something big on it. maybe i just didnt get enough strong upgrades
(also it seems the “orange juice” upgrade doesnt have a description, which is funny)
That's also what I end up doing as I play more. There are a few upgrades like Envy that I will deliberately strategize around but you get so many that it's hard to really make meaningful decisions. That's something I want to work on.
Orange Juice discards all of the orange cards from the deck when you start a life. Sadly the description omission was not intentional! I will fix that as soon as the lock is gone.
Thanks so much for playing!
Incredibly addicting. I managed to get to 75 in my best run. The font really messes with you, I don't know if this was intended or not.
WOW! That's the lowest I have heard of anyone getting! I have only gotten down to the mid 200s myself.
Thank you so much for playing. The font being hard to read was definitely not intended. I should have done more testing, I didn't realize it would be so hard to read for everyone.
Was it hard in all of the spots where the font was? Or just on the cards or just the white text? Would love to know if it works in some places but not others. Thank you!
The font is not unreadable, but it's really confusing. The O, 0 and D are very similar, the 1 looks like the 7, the Z looks like a 2, etc.. I do think the font is really pretty, but those distinctions are especially important in this game haha.
I was really trying to beat the game lol, it would be really awesome if you keep updating it after the jam. It also reminded me of Take 5, I don't know if that was an inspiration.
Another bit of feedback that I would add, and I think someone else mentioned it, is having the card value display somewhere on the card so that you dont have to hover to see it. An option to auto sort the cards on your hand by value would also be helpful.
10/10 feedback, thank you so much.
Definitely planning to update this one a lot more. May even think about shooting for a $3 - $4 Steam release if I can add more content.
I haven't played Take 5. One of the main inspos is a game called "The Game" which is a co-op card game.
I didn't want to further clutter the UI with even more text. I think sorting the hand might be the best move!
The music and sound effects fit the gameplay quite well!
Thanks a lot! It's all stuff that I made for other projects. I am realizing I've managed to build up a little library.
Giving strong balatro vibes, espacially with that music. Nice game with simple and nice art!
Thank you! Always flattering to be compared to a modern classic.
I have to say I appreciate the very clear mechanics, I really like the gameplay concept, cool submission for this game jam!
Thank you so much! I was really trying to focus on a clean mechanical design as a base and then expand on it with things that let you break the rules.
Fun and polished take on the Balatro formula. It's hard to keep track of all the upgrades, so I ended up just flicking cards in order hoping to get lucky. That said, the animations, sound effects, and music are so satisfying that I wound up playing for longer than I'd expected. Very well put together!
Thank you very very very much!
I agree that it's easy to lose track of the upgrades. Thinking that maybe for V2 there may be a limit to the number of upgrades you can get? Though, I don't really mind just playing the cards and not immediately knowing why I can play them. Maybe some kind of visual showing what's letting you play a card before you play it would be good.
Appreciate the feedback!
This is very Fun! Good Job! Also very good Art!
Thank you a lot! It's my first time ever doing art for a jam. Totally reliant on shaders for this one.
Really fun puzzle game with impressive visual and audio polish!
Thanks so much! The audio was all done in the middle of the night on Saturday.
The gameplay feels very polished! The music is also cool. Overall, great game :)
Thanks a bunch! The music is all my old tracks that I haven't ever published!
Such a brilliant game! For your first TRUE solo jam you can be proud I really likeed your game and I really think there is a potential to be a really cool card rogue-like mobile game to play on transports!
The font was pretty hard to read ngl despite that I really loved the rogue-like system!
You completely fit in with the theme
Well done !
Such high praise, thank you very much!
I totally agree, this should be a mobile game for sure. I need to work on a vertical layout.
The font is a common complaint, I will be changing that.
Depending on your target audience you can keep the horizontal format like Balatro !
I do like the idea, the screen tends to get a bit messy though and I wish the value of the tile was available at all times instead of needing to hold your mouse over it, it also gets hard to try and remember all the rules that get added but that's probably a skill issue on my end. I really like the sound and vibe of it all though.
Totally agree, the visual clutter is the biggest issue I have with it at the moment.
I think having unique icons for each of the items might help with the memory problem? Not sure.
Genuinely loved playing through this! I loved how soothing the music was and your use of the prompt was so good!
I really appreciate it! Thank you for playing!
This one has so much style and a great concept. Who knew I’d spend 20 minutes on solitaire++. Check your bgm, theres some peaking on one track, otherwise amazing project.
Thanks so much! Glad to hear you played for so long!
Yeah, all of the songs are really old demo tracks that I made. I ran out of time so I just went to my old music exports folder and grabbed some stuff. The peaking is bothering me too but it's too late to update sadly.
Great project! I really love the visuals and the vibes of this one (even if the font is really hard to read haha). Super creative use of the 'countdown' theme, and I'd be super excited if you wanted to continue this project for a full release - very cute little puzzle/randomy game.
As you know, I am definitely thinking about making it a full thing. Thanks for playing, bud.
I like the sounds alot! I don't like how I just hover over every card in order to see the highest number and then I play it. The letters and numbers on the face of the card are hard to read and I don't really get how they are bigger or smaller than eachother. The waves on each card and the visuals are great! The upgrades are hard to keep track of and I don't really know if they do enough. Thanks for making a game!
Thanks! All of the sound effects are ones that I made from past projects.
Yeah, I found myself doing the same thing when I was playing. Not really how I wanted the game to work. Needs some workshopping.
The cards are in letter and then number order so Z9 > Z5. F1 > E9. X5 > A3. A0 = 0 because it is the lowest possible card.
Glad you like the visuals! Thank you for playing and for your comment!
Very cool looking game! A little difficult to read and to keep track of the abilities you've earned, a fun idea though of a sort of roguelite counting game. Overall nice job!
Thanks a bunch! Yeah super not happy with the readability on everything. That's a common complaint.
This was my first TRUE solo jam. I absolutely overscoped. If you're not overscoping, are you really jamming though?
Really happy with the way this turned out. I was playing with some shader stuff before the jam started and a lot of that ended up being really useful.
I am not sure the game is actually beatable in its current state. I ran out of time and brain cells to really try. There was an entire category of item that I wanted to add to the game but just couldn't swing it. So a lot of the synergies I had planned didn't make it into the jam build.
Despite all of that, it's still subjectively pretty enjoyable to play. I really like it when the items start working together and you can play a lot of cards at once.
Oh, also the prices of items are completely vibes based. I wanted to balance those but just did not have time.
A really good suggestion I have had so far is to penalize death somehow so you can't just play 5 cards, die, and save your money forever.
Seriously thinking about putting a lot more time into this and doing a Steam release with different rules variants and stuff.
