i love point and click mystery games, so this was awesome for me. i loved the stylization of the grainy film shader, and the smoothness of the camera control and swapping between angles. the only thing i think couldve elevated the vibe wouldve been a more fitting stylization for the text box, and a differentiation between when different characters are talking, sometimes it seemed like my dialogue choices were something the other character was saying. regardless, this game had incredible polish and an awesome unique vibe, great submission overall great job !!!
From another person who took it in a count=royal direction, this was awesome!! Reminds me of games I played as a kid, just need a CRT monitor. The reveal of what you have to do at 7pm had me dead.
The vibe and visuals are crazyy :)
Loved the ambience. For a speed-based game it was frustrating that I couldn't skip the typing animations or continue a conversation (had to start the dialogue over after every thread). The camera rotation was a bit fast so I had trouble controlling it. I would have liked to try again but it told me who the killer was at the end. It actually froze then so I didn't see the ending. Cute game, all the same.
Thanks for the feedback! The clock actually isn’t running while you’re inspecting/talking/looking around/etc., it’s more of an action economy masked as a timer (eg. Every time you have a conversation, no matter how many lines of dialogue or however many minutes you spend reading, it takes 25 in game minutes or something like that, whereas moving rooms always takes 5 and inspecting takes like 10-12). Though we did still want to add that feature to conversations, we just didn’t have time
Ahh that is a good approach! Out of curiosity if I re-engage the same character to explore the other dialogue options does that take another 25 minutes or is that all one conversation?
It takes another 25 minutes (or 20 whatever we set it to), but yeah each new time you open the menu is that set amount of time. We wanted to force the player to think very carefully about what they ask and the things they engage with so they aren't just going around asking everything and kinda cheesing it
A great mystery game! I really like the graphics!
crazy accomplished level of visual stuff
I’m a sucker for these old point and click games and murder mysteries! Great mood and I love the real arm picture as an inventory/clock! I got some bugs with overlapping dialogue and the timer was pretty fast, but still very fun! Super impressive for 3 days!
I love the art style and the general sillyness.
However I encountered a bunch of bugs, like being able to use items I haven't found yet, and overlapping dialogue, that blocked me from finishing the game.
I loved the idea; it’s a fantastic job—even after missing a day of development time.
Great game, i love the joke you used in the dialog, unfurtontly i not found the killer, but i love the game.
Can't believe I almost missed my Wizards vs. Jazz game because someone downed the count smh
Wizards vs. Jazz > solving the Count's murder
I actually laughed out loud when the Count's dialogue was cut short lol. Fantastic art direction, love me some good mood lighting. If yall were to return to this concept, I think it would be interesting to explore having forward-only dialogue system (not sure if that's the proper name for it - basically having character dialogue always being different/only progressing when you return to them). You'd probably have to write in a bit of redundancy clue-wise, plus you'd have to figure out how to make item-triggered dialogues work, but I feel like it would add a lot to the immersion + add a lot more opportunities for humour. The usual dialogue box choice list feels a little mechanically limiting in the context of a countdown, personally. But that would definitely be more something to figure out outside the time limit of a game jam. Favourite moment: Picking up the C***t's c****e and rotating it like a rotisserie chicken
I actually love that suggestion! It would definitely take a lot more time to implement, but it sounds like there's so much you can do with that, I feel like I'd have a super fun time just messing around with it. I'm also glad you enjoyed rotating the Count like a chicken!
Lovely little title. It's been a while since I've played a murder mystery. Which explains why I got it all wrong hahaha.
Serious question: Did you photograph your own arm for the timer and inventory system?
Yes, that's my arm!! I went around asking my whole family if anyone had an analog watch I could borrow before settling on what's in the game now. I also probably got a few weird looks since I kept running to different spots in the house for the right lighting/background to cut out the images of my arm and the paper haha
Really great take on the theme! Loved how it looks, and the music and sfx were perfect. Brilliant characters too :3
Thanks for the feedback! Funnily enough, "Down for the Count" was one of our potential game names lol :D
lol amazing :P
Amazing visuals and style! Really enjoyed the dialogue too. Congrats!
Thanks so much! I'm glad you enjoyed :)
This is really good, and a great interpretation of the theme! The dialogue made this very fun
I'm glad you enjoyed! Honestly the dialogue might've been the hardest part of this game
Really good, it's charming and funny despite moving quite quickly. Reminds me of some older point and click games, feels like it ought to have a lucasart-esque voiceover.
We so badly wanted to do voiceovers and we had so many funny bits planned with them, but we just ran out of time sadly
A fun little mystery, I like it a lot!
this was really fun!! the 3d art is amazing, and i had a great time putting on my very best detective persona :)
A detective game, I like that ! Very nice art, music, and concept !
