Yeah this does rely a lil more on luck than a lot of roguelikes, but I thiiiiiink that's the core difference as it stands, idk when I add more mechanics that might change! And yeah the UI is the big thing I missed the bar with when I clicked 'submit' - happy to see that as a common thread of criticism in the comments ^^
