The main mechanic of timer perhaps is a bit fiddly, but damn. Rest of the game is excellent. Great flow, controls and quick and fast tutorial. Very very good job
despite how simple the elements of this are individually the game feel of everything together gives me dopamine more than most other games in the jam, good stuff. I did stop playing after level 1 though, since it seemed like essentially the same thing but just longer, sorry if I missed out on anything fun later on though.
also, small nitpick but usually in breakout hitting the ball on different parts of the paddle effects the angle the ball goes, in this the ball is effectively just a bouncing dvd screensaver logo. that's a lot less interactive, and frustrating early into a level when you need to break 1 block left but have no control over the angle.
I tried adding influence during development, but I felt less in control when I tried to balance between control and momentum. Sometimes it would keep bouncing straight up and other times it would just go through the paddle entirely. I overall just decided to scrap it. Otherwise it might have been game breaking entirely.
I like the idea! It didn't make sense at first, but eventually I got the hang out it!
One small bug - the collision on two balls is a little funky. Occasionally they would latch onto each other and travel in a horizontal line.
I'm going to be honest, I left that bug in because I thought it would be funny haha.
I can respect that haha
This was a very fun take on breakout. The upgrades were very fun to use. And when you had all of them it was very satisfying to see all the blocks break quickly.
Couldn't stop playing it. I love this game but it's a bit repetitive. Great job, keep it up !
Nice spin on the classic game! I liked the music but it did get a bit repetitive, maybe just cuz skill issues made it slow for me to clear. Great work!
This is very solid, I really like the different upgrades, especially as they stack, and the background detail. Simple, yet fun :D
I really liked the premise here, and reducing the clock was a great little challenge! The upgrades are such a fun twist on the game, and make for some very chaotic plays with boosted double balls and x2 speed! Really great game!
really like it, it's fun, but i do feel like 2x speed is too much for me. however i really like it! keep it up :)
UI good, drum music Nice. but It feels like the player has no way to influence the outcome of how the ball moves.
I tried testing influence during development, but to me it felt more frustrating when I tried to balance between keeping the same momentum while also keeping in control, so I just ditched it. (It also didn't help that something the ball just went through the paddle entirely.)
My favorite parts:
- The screen shake
- When a ball should be bouncing horizontally but instead it bounces up which leads to combos of 3 or 5 or 17 (which is probably a bug you either don't know how to fix or kept in on purpose)
- The drum music after completing a "level" syncing to the score display
- Wait never mind I meant a "round" instead of a level I just got to level two dang it now you know I'm making this comment as I play
- Level 3 is a bit of RNG but that means you get to see double ball thrust a bunch of times so it's fun
Tell me how the points are scored, it's fun timing red ball bounces so they collide with white balls to hit the last remaining bricks, but I don't know how much that's hurting my score with me keeping red balls below my paddle.
Once I get the thrust, I just use it and die over and over again to complete the level as fast as possible, that's how I figured out how to get the most points.
One big disadvantage of your game is that rarely anyone is going to get to the later levels because they most likely just want to play the game and get the comment as fast as possible. If you do another game jam, one tip for you is to show the whole game within the first five minutes, or a lot less people will see the whole game, as normally the attention spans are low.
Also hope you get top 100 in audio.
And I didn't realize this is a scratch game until the end lol good job
this is a good 9/10
