End life plan
The game will remain available to play and download on itch.io after the jam. I may fix major bugs and finish some of the missing features if I have time. I do not currently plan to release the source code, but I will keep backups of the project and builds so the game can be archived or uploaded somewhere else if itch.io ever becomes unavailable.

Here is my score:

Well, I really appreciate chess-style games. I just found it hard to tell some of the pieces apart, the bishop and the queen look very similar. though maybe I'm just a bit blind, haha.

Developer

thx for playing!
why do you all get higher scores than me😭

Nice twist. I'd like to see more explanation about how the mechanics work.

Developer

Hi, what exactly would you like to know?

Submitted(+1)

It wasn't really clear to me how the rules of the game work.

Developer

You kill a piece and gain its ability—that is, how it moves.

Submitted

What I meant was, how does one win the game? What is the object? Does my piece only get that ability once, or does it persist? Things like that.

Developer

There is no way; the game is endless. It saves once and accumulates progress.

Neat game! I'm happy with my high score, which I got on my third run.

I had a lot of fun just running around and stealing moves for a couple minutes. I just have one tiny nitpick: If a piece stands on a square, the square doesn't have the grey overlay that shows up on other reachable tiles. Other than that, this seems to be without major disruptive bugs. Keep making cool shit!

Thank you very much, I did it on purpose. My maximum score is 5000 xdxd

That is a very interesting idea for a game based on Chess. I'm no good at Chess, so Chess is not my favourite board game by a longshot (everybody always trashes me at it, historically), but I love to see video games reinterpret it.

Stolen Moves has got serious potential, you could make a whole world with NPCs and social commentary out of something like this. Almost like a Chess RPG Mega Man, I'm picturing.

Sadly, I struggled with knowing what each piece I was going after was sometimes. Some of that is certainly my own flaw with concentration issues, but sometimes I've noticed with different versions of Chess that it's hard to tell what some of the Chess pieces are meant to be just by looking at them. I'm no Chess grandmaster, and unfortunately I did wonder sometimes what was a bishop and what wasn't. The pawns were easy because they were small and always moving one space at a time.
