Best jam game I've played so far, kudos! The art, cute character designs, and music are all fantastic.

I love the puzzle mechanics and how you used the countdown theme to force character swaps every 5 seconds. It's a great spin on the genre. It can get a bit tedious waiting for the timer to tick down so you can control the other character, specially if you make a mistake and need to backtrack. To keep the theme but fix the waiting, maybe you could add a "fast-forward" button that just speeds the timer up when we are waiting for the next swap? (but still that would be the same idea as swapping with a button just with a short delay), but again, this is a very good implementation of the countdown theme even with that issue.

Also, I encountered a bug where both characters would move and turn to stone simultaneously, which required a few restarts to fix.

All these aside, this is something I'd actually buy. Amazing job!

Thanks for sticking it out with the character bug! Glad you had such a good time with it

It’s sadly an issue mainly in web builds (but can happen with the desktop build) if the game lags a bit too hard on startup causing them to break like that

I have an idea on how to patch it so it shouldn’t happen at all even in the worst cases

Congratulations on the great work! I really liked your idea for using the countdown mechanic. I thought it was a very creative interpretation of the game jam theme.

The graphics are excellent, and I was really happy because the castle environment reminded me of Super Mario 64. It gave me a nostalgic feeling while playing.

I had a lot of fun playing your game. Congratulations on the fantastic work!

Hope you get the chance to play my game too.

Cool concept and cute characters! I did not have the patience to beat it but I enjoyed what little I played :D

Absolutely wonderful game! Changing between two characters after a timer ends is a really creative idea, and the way you guys executed it made it very enjoyable as well. I love the 2.5D art style and the timer syncing to the music is also a really nice touch. Great Job!

I really enjoyed this! The overall aesthetic reminds me a lot of the Paper Mario games (maybe also because you switch perspectives between Mario and Peach in the original game).

For some reason, it also reminds me of the 3D Rayman games and even Runescape with the music and level design. Oh, and obviously Zelda Spirit Tracks too :)

This game just perfectly captures some sort of nostalgic feeling from the 2000s-2010s gaming era that I can’t exactly put into words :D

The game is overall very polished, too. Definitely one of my favourite entries this jam!

I enjoyed playing this game and made it all the way to the end even though the controls were a bit unfortunate for me as space is on the right half of my split keyboard and WASD on the left so I had to let go of the mouse each time I needed to jump. But fortunately there was never any need to move, jump and mouse at the same time!

The art style feels very personal and looks good!

Thanks for recording and uploading this! It was super helpful to see the pain points

Really awesome game! I loved the Paper Mario Aesthetic, I think even down to the music? I liked how different the two felt and you did a good job making some simple puzzles and challenges with them.

The only issue I really had with it was that sometimes if I failed a section I’d need to wait for it to reset to the character I need. Maybe something like a fast forward could work so you can still keep the countdown mechanic without having the player wait so long.

I definitely enjoyed it, great work!

Swapping characters is a cool idea. Took me a bit to get the swing of it, but then it clicked.
Love the artwork!

the mechanic is interesting, the art is great (although the floor and walls have way too much aliasing) and unique, and i agree with the comments that the timer sometimes adds too much waiting,

it would have fit the story better if the timer itself turned to stone instead of turning red.

i think the "swap characters every X seconds" mechanic would work better if the game focused more on combat and you had to defend your petrified characters from enemies (as you'd now be constantly playing with your active character and literally never had the opportunity to just wait for a specific character)

Developer

love that idea!

Lovely artwork and quite the fascinating idea! I ended up having to wait a lot more than I would like, and I know it would be totally not what the jam is about, but I think I'd enjoy the game more if you could just freely switch -- or even better, a local multiplayer co-op game would be lovely. I ended up falling down in the left room and didn't want to redo all the steps that got me there, so I stopped at that point. Still, I enjoyed this quite a bit overall, strong entry!

Cool art and idea

Nice art and an unusual idea, but I encountered a strange bug when both characters were active.

Woah cool game. I like how you design your level around their abilities and weakness. Btw I can just skip the whole left section by Ruby jumping on the small ledge lol. image.png

Oopsies! Looks like you’re now the first speedrunner

Conceptually cute, but the timer makes the gameplay feel cumbersome. If you make any mistake, you just spend ten seconds waiting to go again.

Awsome game, tho I'll say the count down hinders it a bit, I think being able to simply swap would make the game way more fluid.

Love the art style and concept! It’s interesting having to play around both characters strengths/weaknesses

Very cutesy. Nice one!

Thank you! The two of them really did an amazing job with the art

This is a really cool idea. Obviously you already know that the web version lags but I'm not able to download the game at the moment. It was also quite difficult to play on a keyboardd with a trackpad as mouse clicks don't always register while pressing other keys but I struggled through for a while and had a good time.

I really hope this game gets a post jam update irorning out some of the stuttering and jerky movement as this was definitely a cool idea.

Yeah it’s a really big shame about the web build, but the good part about it is that is a lot more playable than it was about 10 hours before release. It seems to take a while (about 30 seconds to a  minute for me) but it will tend to smooth out after that, but usually with broken music sadly.

There is actually alternative controls with control and shift I believe (may have it wrong in my head). I definitely think those should have also been included in game
