Well done on trying out your first jam! I was impressed with the concept that you came up with for the theme - and Jo'on's implementation to implement it.
The gameplay seemed rather one-note, although I found the writing promising and the device's sounds fun. Overall, I'm glad that you tried out game dev for the first time!
Very repetitive gameplay loop that could use some variety or more challenge, I did like what day 3 introduced with the whole money detector thingy. The art was fun to look at, same with the sound effects. A decent submission, hope you improve your skills along the way and make cooler games as you go. Also, the story was a fun read wished to see more of it.
hey! very cute for a first game! there sure are a lot of bald suitors nowadays.
the gameplay loop does get repetitive early, but I think there's a lot of potential/room to implement features that can easily improve it! a timer for suitors is the first and easiest problem, but something i thijnk would also be interesting is like, an "irritation" meter of sorts? like, if you hover the moniimeter over them for a while, they'll get irritated, and if they get too irritated they'd leave and you'd get no score.
its a good try though!!!!!!
Joon sure has a lot of side gigs! She caught on to the modern dating app strategy... but ethical?!
Aw I was totally waiting for Shion to appear on the last day so you could use the Tenshi item.
Well, if it's any consolation it's technically not the "last" day, just the end of the Jam-release of the game (hence why I called the game a "glorified demo"). I did plan to have Shion (and a few more actual Touhou characters) but I ran out of artistic motivation towards the end of the jam period. When (if) I get around to making a day 4 and beyond, hopefully Tenshi will finally get a match.
Though it'll still probably be with Shion. As three fairies in a yukata I found *cough*, we found this simple game very lovely and enjoyable. There where a few things I struggle to figure out as who was dressing fancy enough until I found the monimeter and I read the description. Overall, Don't downplay yourself, it was a fantastic papers please attempt for your first game on itch.io :D!
Favorite Part: The sounds, specially the monimeter, PIPIPIPIIIPI PIPIPIPIIPIPI
You're not the first person to have trouble distinguishing who does and doesn't have moolah; I had a friend of mine try the game out after I released it on Itch and she had similar troubles. Basically, the people with hats or accessories of some kind (monocle, money-eyes, rosy cheeks) were the rich customers, while those without them were not (except for day 3, where it's entirely randomized and you have to use the MoniMeter). My initial concept was actually to have the kimono/yukatas have unique designs for the rich customers and just be plain for the poor customers, but I couldn't come up with any unique or interesting designs (I flipped through at least four different designs on Jo'on's alone), so I settled for just adding things on top of the five base suitors.
I'm glad you enjoyed the beeping. It's supposed to be the first few notes of the Theme of Eastern Story motif, but I think I cut the end loop off too quickly so the first and last note blend together. I blame GameMaker (and totally not the dev who has no idea what she's doing). I wanted there to be more sound effects (the biggest one being the opening/closing of the shutter) but I couldn't make them very well with my voice (plus I didn't want to deal with the GM2 audio system). Anyway, thanks for enjoying the game!
