I love this type of game. Incremental spooky push-further-each-time horror.
The thing it could have used most was actual darkness in the dark. I never needed the upgrade that increases lantern distance due to that fog that lets you see in the dark. It also made it easy to spot the monster and detracted from the scares.
Very moody and polished game. I enjoyed it a lot!
The font had some scaling issues that made it difficult to read sometimes.
Thanks for sharing that with us. Yes the web version is far less performant, that's just the nature of exporting a 3d game to the web. The freeze you experienced when hitting an object for the first time, if it didn't happen again after that, then it's due to the engine loading the shader for the particle effect for the first time. This is a classic Godot optimization issue that takes a lot more time to work around, something that would be great to have solved but 4 days is tight! That freeze is not something we as the devs noticed because after the particles load for the first time on our machines, we never run into that freeze again as the shader was then cached.
This is by far my favorite submission from this jam art and vibe-wise. This game feels so polished and has great potential. Although I will say that after about 7 minutes of playing it did get sort of monotonous or at least the dungeon did. But again, I still really enjoyed it!
Very simple idea, but I actually had a lot of fun playing it! I like the moody visuals, the progression, and the tension of avoiding the Minotaur. Almost all of the upgrades were worth getting , and it was neat that getting more movement speed and stamina allowed me to kite the Minotaur and get past him, it felt like a very organic way to progress
I’m currently on a mission to play every GMTK game that has a lantern in it… purely because our game is lantern-themed too 😂
Really glad this one ended up on the list! The atmosphere is fantastic, and the Minotaur hearing your footsteps made every axe swing feel risky. I also loved the little ember fairy, it added a lot of personality to the whole experience. Great job, and good luck in the jam!
Love the creepy vibe, the most completed game ive played this jam, although i would like variety in the resources other than just woods, Great job!
One of the best games i've played in the jam. It feels like a real complete game.
A well rounded game with some well balanced rouguelite elements. It fits the theme pretty well, it isn’t too hard or too easy, and understanding the game is quite straight forward. A solid entry to the game jam. Good job!!
This is the most complete game I’ve played on this jam so far, amazing what you did with this limited time!
I like the concept! I liked going out into the dungeon, hearing the sounds of the minotaur before seeing one was pretty tense. I thought that this game had the perfect setup for having you navigate your way back to the brazier yourself, in the dark, or with limited light, etc. but instead you're teleported. I think this was quite the missed opportunity! I also felt the upgrades, particularly the ones that gave you more wood per object, were simply not powerful enough, which extends the gameplay time artificially a bit. Overall though, I did have fun with it, the core gameplay itself is just fun!
We actually want to make changes after the jam to expand on the idea to possibly introduce future braziers! It was actually a game design mechanic we had to keep as the resources of the map/new maze generation reset when your light goes out. We think it'd be fun to switch that up and explore more into multiple braziers that you have to rush to get to in order to refill your lantern.
We very much appreciate your feedback and we are very happy you tried it out!
