nice game
Thank you for checking it out!
I love this type of game. Incremental spooky push-further-each-time horror.
The thing it could have used most was actual darkness in the dark. I never needed the upgrade that increases lantern distance due to that fog that lets you see in the dark. It also made it easy to spot the monster and detracted from the scares.
Thanks for taking the time to play our game! And thanks for the feedback. We will be making future updates and improvements to the game after the jam, we will talk about fog and visibility.
Very moody and polished game. I enjoyed it a lot!
The font had some scaling issues that made it difficult to read sometimes.
Thanks for checking it out! Glad you enjoyed it! Yes, that is the most common feedback we have received, fair criticism. We are working on updating UI and I improving readability in a future update after the jam is over.
Oh btw, loved your submission, added it to my collection of favorite games from this jam.
I found the concept interesting, but encountered significant game freezes and technical issues. Especially with full screen
Hi error, thanks for trying it out! I'm curious what issues you were running in to so we can take a look at it. Was this the web version or install?
The web version. When i first hit an object with the axe the game froze for a solid half a second. And the game didn't scale correctly on an ultrawide monitor
Interesting, okay. We will take a look at it! The downloaded version may be more stable if you're interested in giving that a go too! I will have to look into the ultra wide issue as well. I believe I may know what's up with that actually.
Thank you so much for the feedback!
As much as i'm sure you are nice guys, i don't download game jam games on my work computer for malware reasons
No worries. I totally understand!
Thanks for sharing that with us. Yes the web version is far less performant, that's just the nature of exporting a 3d game to the web. The freeze you experienced when hitting an object for the first time, if it didn't happen again after that, then it's due to the engine loading the shader for the particle effect for the first time. This is a classic Godot optimization issue that takes a lot more time to work around, something that would be great to have solved but 4 days is tight! That freeze is not something we as the devs noticed because after the particles load for the first time on our machines, we never run into that freeze again as the shader was then cached.
yeah i know i know. These things happen in a game jam
Crazy ambitious for a jam game! Props to the team!
Thank you very much! Means a lot. We are pretty happy with what we managed to squeeze into those 4 days.
We poured a lot of time into it, and we came out with something we can be proud of. Thank you so much for playing our game!
This is by far my favorite submission from this jam art and vibe-wise. This game feels so polished and has great potential. Although I will say that after about 7 minutes of playing it did get sort of monotonous or at least the dungeon did. But again, I still really enjoyed it!
Thank you so much for playing and for the feedback! That is fair criticism. We are already talking about future updates to game. We'd love to expand upon this.
Wow! I am so happy you enjoyed it. It means a lot to us that our game left that sort of impression. We have been discussing how to expand and add more to the game in the future. We definitely appreciate the feedback as we'd love to make this as great as we can
Very simple idea, but I actually had a lot of fun playing it! I like the moody visuals, the progression, and the tension of avoiding the Minotaur. Almost all of the upgrades were worth getting , and it was neat that getting more movement speed and stamina allowed me to kite the Minotaur and get past him, it felt like a very organic way to progress
Hi! Thanks so much for playing our game, and great feedback, glad to hear that.
Great progression system with all the upgrades! I really like it!
Thanks so much for checking it out! Your submission looks really interesting, I'll have to download it after work 🙂
very fun game. i love the spooky atmosphere
Thank you for checking it out! Glad you enjoyed it.
I’m currently on a mission to play every GMTK game that has a lantern in it… purely because our game is lantern-themed too 😂
Really glad this one ended up on the list! The atmosphere is fantastic, and the Minotaur hearing your footsteps made every axe swing feel risky. I also loved the little ember fairy, it added a lot of personality to the whole experience. Great job, and good luck in the jam!
I'm glad you enjoyed it!! Thank you so much for taking time to try it out. Noise detection was very fun to play with in this project!
Love the creepy vibe, the most completed game ive played this jam, although i would like variety in the resources other than just woods, Great job!
Wow! What a compliment! Thank you so much for trying the game out! I think having more resources would be very fun as well. Both Moondream and I hope to add to the game after the jam ends, so we'll definitely think through adding differing resources.
NGL This feels like a real complete game , the polish is amazing the animation was great and even the story was great , Amazing Job !
We appreciate that! Thank you for checking it out!
I am happy you enjoyed the animations! I spent a long while trying to make the axe swing feel juicy. I think between that, the object wobbles, and the particle effects made it very satisfying to gather resources. Thanks so much for trying out the game!
One of the best games i've played in the jam. It feels like a real complete game.
Thank you for checking it out! It was our goal from the beginning to be sure we submitted a complete game. At times I was unsure we'd make it in time.
i immediately ran into a bug where the game gets far too pixelated when you change your settings, but once i figured that out, i really enjoyed the game! the sounds and graphics are super pleasing and the gameplay loop is pretty fun. good stuff :)
Thank you for playing! I appreciate the feedback.
And that's an interesting bug. Did you play in the web or did you download?
I was playing in web!
A well rounded game with some well balanced rouguelite elements. It fits the theme pretty well, it isn’t too hard or too easy, and understanding the game is quite straight forward. A solid entry to the game jam. Good job!!
Thank you for the feedback!
And likewise with your game too, an excellent entry.
Thanks for playing!
This is the most complete game I’ve played on this jam so far, amazing what you did with this limited time!
Thank you for playing!
Dang guys, the minotaur sounds were so scary and suspenseful. Love the creepy vibe. What a cute artwork of the fairy as well! Really fun and well thought out. Impressive what all you could do in the time period allotted as well.
Thank so much for playing! I'm glad you enjoyed it. And yeah.. we worked round the clock all 4 days, we're tired.
You owe me a new pair of pants after that minotaur scare! Great game, great atmosphere
Haha. Hope you're doing ok after that minotaur. Thank you for playing our game!
Yeah, our Jimothy has a loud roar and horns. Sorry about that...
I like the concept! I liked going out into the dungeon, hearing the sounds of the minotaur before seeing one was pretty tense. I thought that this game had the perfect setup for having you navigate your way back to the brazier yourself, in the dark, or with limited light, etc. but instead you're teleported. I think this was quite the missed opportunity! I also felt the upgrades, particularly the ones that gave you more wood per object, were simply not powerful enough, which extends the gameplay time artificially a bit. Overall though, I did have fun with it, the core gameplay itself is just fun!
We actually want to make changes after the jam to expand on the idea to possibly introduce future braziers! It was actually a game design mechanic we had to keep as the resources of the map/new maze generation reset when your light goes out. We think it'd be fun to switch that up and explore more into multiple braziers that you have to rush to get to in order to refill your lantern.
We very much appreciate your feedback and we are very happy you tried it out!
Thank you very much for this feedback, much appreciated! Thank you for playing our game.
I love the idea about navigating back to the brazier, I might need to ponder on that.
And yes, for a game jam, the upgrading progression was slower than intended.
Fun game, the atmosphere is fittingly oppressive with the graphics and sound design!
Moondream did fantastic on the sound and Natalie's music was great! Definitely helped tie in the art style. Thanks for playing it!
