Thanks for trying out our game! I also enjoyed this entry <3

Very impressive that you managed to make chess in four days! Great job!

Hello! Unfortunately I don't okay a lot of chess, so this game is not really for me. Though I still liked the idea of preparation the formation before the battle to rush the King. I felt like thought it was a little unfair having to fight 3 queens with permadeath when I can't even afford one, even if I believe I missed something in the rules.

I wasn't moving the pieces too much to be affected by the countdown on the pieces, so I can't really tell how impactful it was.

Here's the VOD (Game is at 2:39:00)

Really cool game! Funnily enough I've been trying to get into chess recently so this was fun to see! On my first playthrough I didn't quite get the extra mechanics as the screen was too zoomed in to see the whole shop, I didn't really interact with the timer on pieces and then eventually the game soft locked with the enemy team not making a move, but I was enjoying playing chess with different piece positions than usual. Second playthrough I learnt about zooming out so I could see the whole shop, and I pressed e to see all the timers and then things clicked, I really liked the idea, I started playing the game as intended and was properly thinking about what pieces to use. Eventually having multiple queens to checkmate in less than 5 turns was very fun. Selling pieces is a really cool idea too, especially with the shop being randomized (I think), so I also had to consider if there were any pieces I actually wanted from the shop. The game did softlock again sadly, but I think I got to experience the core of the game. This is really fun, such a good idea on the theme and also chess in general lol. Excellent work on this!

The softlocking seemed to be a reacurring issue and we managed to fix it in post, sadly we didnt notice it in time for the jam.

If we participate in another jam, we definetley learned to make the core mechanics of a game more obvious, as we noticed a lot of people couldnt really tell them in time.

Overall we really appreciate ur detailed feedback on the project, it will help us a lot in future projects <3

Super fun! I loved the idea of the shop breaks in between. And applying a timer to each piece is a good thought too, very good!

Thanks for commenting on mine so that I could see yours! Wonderful little game! I like how we both had the same idea of implementing the countdown into a per-piece timer, though we both went in very different directions with it haha. Y'all should be proud, this is a great game! Chess gamers forever!!!

Fun game! I always love chess based entries as I'm a big fan of the game, and your spin on it doesn't disappoint!

Okay I love chess so this game was pretty great. I hadn't read the description when I first played so I wasn't really sure how it was different from regular chess other than how it has a shop and how it keeps the position of the pieces every game but I worked it out eventually. This is a cool twist that I haven't seen before, which made me really think about whether to even move certain pieces or not! You also made a pretty solid chess engine that has nicely designed pieces visually.

- There should be an option to not promote once it pops up with the menu for which piece you wanna promote a pawn to, because i didn't actually want to promote the pawn on this specific turn and realised i was forced into it as soon as I got to that menu.
- I found a bug where the game loaded for a second when t should be the enemy's turn, and then they just never made a move which softlocked the game.
- My screen was far too zoomed in; i could only see the left side of the shop and couldn't see the top of the screen either. Changing resolution did nothing.

Still this is a pretty cool chess variant!

Hey, we appreciate your feedback dearly.

Your first 2 points are fair and we already noticed them, sadly just didn't have time to fix them. We will get back to them after the jam tho.

As for the zommage, i don't know if you noticed, but there actually is the possibility to zoom with ctrl + mouse wheel :D, we tried to explain it using the notes to the left of the chessboard, maybe it wasn't portrait clearly enough tho.

Ty for your detailed feedback <3

Very nice soundtrack! The figures were kinda confusing, but overall a fun game for anyone who likes chess :)

Really cool entry! The art style and music create a great vibe, and the gameplay is very fun. My main suggestion would be making the text a bit larger and adding a quick restart button to make it feel even smoother to play. Great job on this game!

Glad you enjoyed it, tysm for the suggestions:D

I kinda absolutely adore the way that a seemingly simple change introduces a totally new spin on the chess formula; the strategy becomes so much about prioritising units, time management, and knowing what to let go. I'd love to come back to this after the jam finishes up, it's so cerebral and nifty.

I mean I suck at it, but it's kinda like learning chess initially, I'm excited to get better!

It's kinda easy if you know the common moves of chess, maybe balancing the piece timers a bit with a little more explanation on the countdown (but not outside, in game)

I kept going around the chess board thinking i would find something secret :P.

Developer (1 edit)

The game does get progressively harder tho. At what's stage exactly should it be more difficult?

Ty for the feedback tho :D

I honestly got pretty excited after playing a standard game of chess for the mechanics just to completely change up and have to use my brain in a new fascinating way, I am definitely playing more of this after the jam and would love to see a more polished version some day. Great work! Proud of you, keep making games!
