How does your game fit the theme?
My game fit the theme because you are in a constant race with the lava as the countdown. You have till the lava rises up to finish the level.

This game has a cool interpretation of the theme, it has a lot of potential for unique mechanic. Unfortunately, i didn't manage to learn the game mechanic, because i kept dying in the first few seconds because of the lava rose really fast. I highly recommend to make a tutorial level, or at least give the player a grace time to learn the control of the game. And you can add a sensitivity setting, it would be a great quality of life for the player. Overall, this game has a lot of potential, and has a lot room for improvement. Good luck!
Yeah most people struggled and want me to do a tutorial. Its a shame i didnt think of that, playtesting to others should have been something i did but thats a learning experience! As for the sensitivity setting. TRUST me when i say that i tried to add it in the last hour or so, but i realised that i fucked up where i put my sensitibility code and couldnt risk to alter everything back. It was inside the player but couldnt be accessed in the main menu. Should have had a seperate script for it. Thank you so much for playing my game and thanks for the feedback, il check yours soon :)
i totally agree with cachandlerdev here. you're game needs a tutorial and needs to be more forgiving. i kept dying and dying at some point it got frustrating. also in the beginning your player is in the air. this makes the experience for the first blink very disorienting. i'm proud of you publishing your first game. playtesting with complete strangers without any info at hand is the most humbling experience. playtest with your target audience, not with people who are invested in you. thats the best advice i've been given. and make more prototypes! the more you experience the more you can direct your design. i appreciate you making a intro that wants to have a narrative. thats very impressive and shows you care! please make more games it is one of the best life choices i've ever made for myself.
Thank you for playing my game! Yeah i get why there should be a tutorial. Its a bit overwhelming to INSTANTLY start the game i get what you mean. As for the desorienting part, its meant to be. I tried to make it so that you felt what the character feels when waking up in the dark place. As for being in the air at the start, im confused can you tell me where exactly? Normally you shouldnt be in the air to start anywhere in the levels which is a very weird thing. True i should probably playtest with people who are the target audience, that is probably my biggest mistake this jam. I did prototype this game, but i am going to be honest, i hate prototyping xd. But yeah i keep on planning to get better and better. Thank you so much for the feedback and playing my game. I will take the advice and apply it :)
The controls could be better, and it's a bit hard to see what's happening on the screen sometimes. But I don't often see a 3D game, so respect. I like the lava idea. Overall, a very cool game, good job!
Thank you for playing my game. Yeah its my first ever 3D game, im going to try and learn how to have smoother controls. As for hard to see whats happening. I get why you would think that, but thats a bit of a feature. If you mean by hard to see whats happening in terms of movement or something else, then it isint a feature and you might be talking about the first person wall jumps. Im sorry for that. But for the environement, its a feature to not know whats happening. Thank you for playing my game, i will look at yours :)
First of all, congratulations on publishing a game! I remember my first game jam too and it's super challenging when you're trying to do everything solo. I really like the minimalistic graphics!
Since your itch page mentioned you were looking for feedback, my suggestions would be to (1) spend a little more time trying to get the player movement to feel good (either via mechanics, game juice, etc.) Try playing some 3d platformers like Mirror's Edge, Titanfall, etc., and pay attention to what makes their movement systems feel good. That would be my #1 piece of advice because the feel of the player controller is priority number 1 in 3d platformers. (2) Secondly, I would suggest adding some kind of tutorial, because it's super disorienting to hit play and immediately die the first few times. (3) Above all else in games like these, you want to figure out how to keep things from getting frustrating. Perhaps you could make the game a little more forgiving by slowing the lava rise speed?
I'm only pointing these tips out since you mentioned you wanted feedback. Game jams are tough, especially when you're working alone. (I went solo my first jam, but the last few years I've worked with others via the GMTK Team Finder tool.) Congrats again on finishing the game!
Cool idea, haven't seen 3d platformer in a while, and fits the theme Well, Would benefit from a tutorial but is fun nonetheless, Good Job
Thank you so much. Yeah i underestimate how hard my game was because i was the only one playing it. Next time i wont do the same mistake, thank you for playing my game and for the feedback. Il check out your game :)
Fun concept! I enjoy a more 3D platformer take on an infinite runner, though I’ll admit I struggled to get very far because of a bug that seemed to keep dragging my aim slowly downwards until I was staring at the floor?
Thank you for playing my game :). Im sorry for the bug i didnt realise there was a problem like this. I will do better playtesting next time so sorry!
Don’t be so hard on yourself, still had a good time with it. ^^
