I wish this game had just a little tiny bit more polish rather than more content. Sounds come from wrong side, collisions feel a little clunky, enemies barely distinctive in their mechanics. It's not much of a problem but still...

it has solid base and quite a LOT of content for a jam game. Hope you will make it better in the future

Developer

Hey Azroom, yes agreed we took on a bit much for a Jam which took away a lot of time from polishing the main loop. Appreciate the feedback, we will continue to work on it and spend the much needed time to fix and polish the main loop.

It was fun to play but had some issues. Delete the bottom half of map and UI, literally. It blocks so much vision. The weapon skill in between are hard to grasp and read, could be simplified. Overall I really enjoyed the game but the core loop is kinda weak.

Developer

Appreciate the feedback, we will be looking at developing the game further and getting it polished. Agree with you, the UI and bottom piece takes up too much real estate and will be improved on in the next build thanks!

For a game this ambitious and of this style, gameplay balance is extremely important, but you scoped too big and didn't focus on gameplay at all. On my second ever run, with zero upgrades from the shop it was trivial to get to wave 50 and I eventually died on wave 64 after a gruelling, laggy 45 minutes!! It's simply way too easy, making it quite unfun, and the way enemies don't disappear after you kill them is bad for two reasons, they clutter up the screen and cover the alive enemies, and sometimes their animations don't stop so they are very easy to confuse for real enemies; and secondly the shear number of enemies lags the game to oblivion. On my first battle the enemies did despawn and dropped a coin, so maybe that's a bug and I just got unlucky, but frankly that still wouldn't have made it fun with how easy it was.

On top of this, the clear use of AI assets is really disappointing, and blatantly against the rules. This game is littered with it, along with really odd design choices. Perhaps you should focus more on honing your raw skills rather than deferring this to AI because the output is of really poor quality below the surface and I'd like to think that wasn't a reflection of your ability.

If this sounds harsh it's because I just sat through a very painful 45 minutes of basically "auto-scroller" gameplay. Testing this should've been priority number one, not an alchemy system and all the other things going on between battles. There's good elements but efforts seriously need to be refocused in the future.

Developer

Thanks for the feedback. Unfortunately we rushed in too many features and didn't get time to fully polish every aspect of it that we could. Will work on being better for the next jam.

Very Impressive game for a game jam. I wonder how many people worked on this game to have so much content.

I LOVE the skill tree. Very impressed by how much content there is!

Developer

Thanks! A lot of improvement still needed especially on the weapon skill tree as its hard to focus on it while enemies are running at you.

Automatic attacking is nice and I like the upgrade system!

Developer

Thanks, a lot to learn still and fix with the upgrade systems but we will get there.

awesome submission! feels really satisfying to play, and truly impressive given the time limit for the jam. my only bit of constructive criticism would be that the timer limits time for making build decisions - maybe it could stop ticking down at the end of each round, immediately pay out, and then give the player as much time as they want for upgrades, with a 'next round' button? regardless a fun game, and well implemented - well done!

Developer(+1)

Yes we did the time limit mainly to try and fit more into the theme of the jam but will most likely change the way the rounds work going further to make it more fun. Definitely like your suggestion of immediately paying out, will make the crowd basically pay you for being fast and impressive and then allowing you to calmly upgrade your weapon before the next round.

This is a very impressive game given to have been made in a jam timeframe! So really good job there.

It's a fun and satisfying core loop that's pretty well-implemented here. Very much scratches that "number go up" itch.

Unfortunately though I think the part of the game that falters for me is its take on the theme. In theory the trade-off between getting more money vs getting to use the time for something is good, but in practice here it just doesn't work for a few reasons:

  • There are many thing that are made more fun by adding time pressure. Unfortunately trying to read and parse and large skill tree is not one of those things, it just feels really bad to skim read and therefore not really make interesting decisions about your build.
  • Once you eventually do then become familiar with it though it completely flips, and now there's no reason to spend more than like 3 seconds after the round is done so it no longer is an interesting decision whether to skip for the gold.

A few other minor nitpicks:

  • I'm never a big fan of skill trees that just do smaller percentage increase things. I want upgrades to do big things that change the way you play.
  • It's really annoying that the old bodies stay there. When I had a good run and did like 50 waves at a certain point I just couldn't see the enemies any more due to all the corpses. I thought maybe if I didn't skip the round timer then the little goblin would come out and clear the bodies but I waited a full round without skipping and he didn't come :|
  • The bow definitely feels way stronger than the other weapons. It's got a way higher base damage plus you then immediately can get extra shots and bouncing shots, so very quickly you're doing like 15x more damage than the other weapons. However I will also say that did make it super fun and I'm a strong believer in jam games are better when they're crazy than when they're balanced.

Despite having a lot of critiques, I do think this is still a really solid game and a really impressive piece of work!

Developer(+1)

Thanks a lot for your detailed feedback, we want to continue working on the game further so your feedback is going to help us a lot.

* The time pressure was mainly for the jam's theme so will definitely be re-looking at the wave timers etc after the jam.
* Agreed with the upgrades need to feel bigger, going to look into that
* The goblin was unfortunately bugged, once he is scared off by an enemy he never returns, he was supposed to come every 2nd round

Thanks again for your feedback

Its quite the interesting game, and skill trees are always fun but the power scaling is a bit too slow and the upgrades dont feel as impactful due to mostly being stat buffs, but the gameplay loop is very fun

Developer

Thanks for the feedback, yes we will work on improving the skill trees for the future to make it more satisfying.

overall it’s pleasant, the loop is a bit addictive but underdeveloped; I’d like a faster power boost. Because of the small screen size and the inability to zoom in, it’s inconvenient to play.

Developer

Ye time was a bit short to get the full picture we wanted in so a lot of rushed features. Did fix the full screen bug in the meantime but thanks for the feedback!
