Hey! Really cool game, even somehwat addictive! Nice artwork, music and mechanics. The only thing I would change is this camera following the player 24/7, and maybe spikes' hitboxes.
the aesthetic is very good! had a fun time :)
Super cool game! The mechanics felt pretty good and they all felt good. A few pieces of feedback (I see that this is your first game jam). Firstly, I think you might need to add a dead zone for the camera, it feels super jolty when the camera follows the characters every move. Secondly, I think the hitboxes on the spikes / wheels might be a bit too tight, it made the game feel too difficult at times. Lastly, I think you needed more mechanics, or make them cost more coins, because I'd unlocked all the mechanics quickly but kind of lost the urge to keep exploring after that.
Overall, you did a great job, you should be proud with the mechanics, the artwork and the game as a whole, if it's your first jam, you've done an excellent job! I'd be happy to answer any extra questions! Feel free to check out our entry, I think you'll like it :)
i think, you had some great ideas. the loop of getting better at the same run while upgrading your character is a nice concept. i felt the execution and especially control of the character itself was lacking and took away from the enjoyment
thanks for the honest feedback, really appreciate it! this was our first time doing the whole movement/mobility side of a game, so it's definitely something we're still figuring out haha. if you don't mind me asking, what felt off to you? too floaty, too slippery, unresponsive? would love to know what we could improve for next time 🖤
hey sure thing!
i would have loved to have the camera not rigidly attached to the player but following in some way, as that felt a bit disorienting
other than that, i think some transitions in the platforming speed would be nice (it felt very 0 to 100)
also maybe variations on jump height/length that depend on player input
i think it would be good to look at games like hollow knight or even classics like mario bros to see what small things theyre doing to make the player feel more controlled, but as this is your first time making movement like this, i think you did very good!
fun concepts! i like the implementation of the time, the rougelite-aspect and the "revisiting" of the map with new abilitys. My only complaint would be, that working with coins could get a bit grindy, but it is fine for a gamejam-version. If you keep working on the game, the meotrid-style of finding abilitys in the world could work as well :D
btw, did the music change when i got an upgrade?
Thanks so much for playing! :) yeah, dying-to-get-stronger was kinda the whole point: you die, grab some coins, come back a little better. so the grind's sorta by design haha, but you're right that it's tight in a jam build. More/longer levels would give the world-abilities idea way more room to breathe.
And haha nope: same track the whole time (Skeleton – Acid Jazz), it's just a long one, so you probably caught a different part of the loop. glad it felt reactive though. 🖤
Really awesome ! I got hooked trying to unlock the 3 upgrades ! And the level design really invites you to play again in different direction, well done :) I would just make the pikes stand out more visually
thank you!! so happy you got hooked on! that replay-in-different-directions thing was exactly what we were hoping for :) and yeah, you're totally right about the spikes, we felt that too but ran out of time to fix it haha. next time! thanks for playing
