I love the vibe/atmosphere and the art!!
The concept behind this is amazing and the creepy grocery store vibe is extremely well done. The multitasking required makes the simple concept have a level of difficulty to it that I enjoyed. The dialogues and characters are all so unique and interesting and add to the vibe perfectly.
However, sometimes finding a task was a bit difficult, specifically the bathroom. There was no indicator for where it was, so an indicator such as the one used to locate salt for a customer would've been great. Also, having the character dialogue cut into your time for tasks is a bit frustrating because it doesn't allow you to fully enjoy the dialogue plus you can't actually skip through the text quickly.
Those are just some minor complaints but I really did enjoy this game and would love to see it expanded upon. Incredible job for just a few days!
Fun concept and I really like the unsettling/creepy vibe with artwork, great stuff.
Gameplay is fine, but I have some subjective nitpicks: I think that the game is a bit too slow, days are pretty long, and I dreaded stocking up, because it's very repetitive, especially when you have to do 3 or even 4 shelves (since each takes 20+ items - btw great touch with those, I especially laughed at racoon :D). Also - I know it's about progressing time, but I'm not sure about time passing by when talking to somebody. Those dialogues are well written and often very funny, but I just wanted to skip all of them as fast as possible, because it was taking my time to do stuff.
I don't want to sound overly negative, because I really liked this game, it's creepiness and fantastic character designs (both in game and in dialogue). Good job!
Thanks for playing! The days past the first day are bugged unfortunately and tasks don't spawn the way they're supposed. It's supposed to be fast and hectic but unfortunately it ends up being pretty slow. With the dialogue I didn't want it to pause time because I wanted to capture the feeling of being talked to by a customer or coworker when you really have something else to do. It's supposed to be a little frustrating because it can be very frustrating in real life haha, but as a consequence it does cause people to speed through the dialogue as fast as possible. Perhaps I should've made it pause time, but it's a trade-off. I agree that the days are too long too. I would definitely make some changes to that in hindsight.
In any case, thanks for playing and I'm glad you enjoyed your time with it!
Yeah, it's a tough trade-off.
I understand your reasoning behind it. I think that artistic/design vision is the most important thing, so if you think that it's fair to sacrifice some quality of life feature to strenghten the narrative, then I think it's worth it and that's the way it should be.
Thanks for taking time to respond and explain this to me :)
I had a blast playing this. The characters, designs, and overall vibe were super funny and entertaining. It's really well-polished for a game jam entry. Definitely recommend checking it out.
This art, bro. Junji Ito got nothing on you. What are those characters??? XD
I got fired from Global Mart, now I challenge you to not get fired from Bomberful store.
Retail hell! Nice game, good take on the theme! A bit slow to get going and to figure out the area. Perhaps a minimap, or arrows pointing towards objectives?
