How does your game fit the theme?
The player is a living candle whose flame is their source of power and survival. As the candle burns, the player must use their limited light to fight enemies, explore the darkness, and survive dangerous encounters. The theme is represented through the candle itself — the player's strength is also their countdown, making every moment a balance between using the flame and preserving it.

The idea is lovely and the controls are sweet but i think it has some bugs related to sprites. Also the projectiles were not being shot at the direction I was pointing at, so I think that’s also a bug. Even though, the art is amazing, the idea is pretty good and the gameplay is fun. I only managed to get to the first boss :( Anyways, I would totally recommend that you made this into a full game after the jam. Good job!

I'm not entirely sure what happened, as most assets were loading either not correctly or not at all, it seems? Tried several browsers but without any luck,.  And I got to the first boss, but after a few hits it disappeared, not sure if I didn't get what to do or if I was bugged, but my entire flame went out just waiting, as I couldn't hit anything at all. And finally, after dying, I respawned in the purple area, with literally nothing around me at all. Couldn't find my way back to the boss, or to anything... Not sure what to think of this one, concept was interesting tho

nice game!! its lags just a bit, and sometimes the ennemies just stop moving, but the art is great and the idea too!

The game looks quite good, I really like the contrast of the warm yellow player and the deep purple of everything else. It seemed like enemies may have broken on my second attempt, because they stopped moving and attacking me? Otherwise, very nice set of combat skills, I especially liked the slash ability, it was very juicy.

Neat game! I struggled to work out of I was actually hitting/damaging the enemies so I'd love some more of an indication of a successful hit. But I definitely see a lot of potential, and the use of a candle for the theme is really clever :D

Well done!

Nice game, but it's kinda laggy for me, I'm using Firefox browser. Whenever you have time, try to add more sound to make your game more responsive. Just a few SFX and a good background will increase your game value. Anyway, well done for the GMTK <3

I think there was a problem when loading some of the assets? i got some ping squares. regardless of that the gameplay is quite fun! couldve used some more sound (unless there was and it just didnt work). Great Job either way!

The pixel art looked really cool. But the game ran very slow for me. I don't know if the issue was on my side. I can see that with a little more time this could have turned out much better. I had to cut many things from my game too and didn't polish as much as I wanted. I feel you :')

Good one! i want to know more how to kill these guys( enemies) at first haha using a candle is a good idea and the skills are really suitable for the candle nice :)

Really hope u can test our game thk!

It’s a nice game, although the light is very extreme at times and enemies have waaaayy too much health. Also it would really benefit from having sound. Apart from that it’s a good idea with potential.

the idea is very nice and a nice interpretation of the theme, although I feel like my attacks were not very effective? didn't notice any of the enemies actually dying or disappearing... good job though, some UX polish would make this a fun little game!

Submitted

Nice interpretation of the theme! I had fun using my attacks and enemy sprites looked very cool (though I would have loved more variation). I didn't encounter any performance issues like people have noted!

Developer

Thanks so much for playing! I'm really glad you enjoyed it and which browser did you use? I'm trying to investigate why some players have performance issues while others don't

I used edge!

Nice work on The Last Light! The main concept was easy to understand and fun to try. The art direction gave it a lot of personality.

Developer

Thank you so much! I'm really glad you enjoyed the concept and art direction.

It has great potential. Was very laggy and it had no sounds. If you could fix these after the jam it could be a pretty good game.

I really like the concept, but it was nigh unplayable sadly. Every attack that created particles fully froze the game for several seconds and enemies refused to attack me for some reason. Art was super good though, very impressive

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks so much for playing and for the kind words about the concept and art!  If you're willing to try again, another browser like edge may run more smoothly. Also, I tried to make combat easy, but the final boss is the real test Thanks again for the detailed feedback!

Doesn't seem to work, unfortunately.  Enemies spend 90% of their time running in circles around me or just standing next to me, my attack hitboxes don't seem to be synced up with my movement, and the game freezes every time I use my heavy attack or ability.   Playing on the most recent version of Firefox.  Hopefully you can get it fixed, could be fun!

Developer

Thanks for trying the game and for the detailed feedback! I really appreciate it. Sorry you ran into those issues on Firefox. If you're willing to give it another shot, another browser like edge may perform better. Also, the objective is to activate all 5 shrines to unlock the final boss. Thanks again for giving the game a chance!

Umm was unplayable for me on chrome as it just 100% maxed out my cpu usage. Worked on edge tho.
I think it could be a nice concept but i was a bit confused on how the combat works and also what i need to do. Also after respawning after dying to the boss i just respawned in the void somewhere which was kinda game breaking.

Thanks for playing and for the detailed feedback! I'm sorry you ran into those issues. I really appreciate you taking the time to report them, especially the Chrome performance and respawn bug.

Interesting concept playing as a candle. I think it fits the theme quite well. Good job!

For me the issue was the enemies taking way too long to kill, and no indication of how well I was doing. The first enemy I encountered, I hit a lot of times with both left/right click as well as Q, but he just seemed to not react and continue coming. Some indication if I am doing damage (and maybe lower health) would be nice.

Overall a very creative submission. Thank you!

Developer

Thanks so much for playing! I'm glad you liked the candle concept.  I also appreciate the feedback about combat feedback—it makes sense that clearer hit indicators would make the experience better. There are 5 shrines hidden throughout the world. Activate all of them, and you'll be teleported to the final boss. No need to kill all enemies.

I lasted longer than I usually expect in these games! but I had no idea where to go so maybe a little incentive would help ?
