After downloading the game, how do I start it? I extracted the zip file. Is that necessary? I'm not that tech-savvy, so I think I need assistance.
not realy just click the exe file
I figured it out. I just had to click the SpinToWin_Jam2026 application file.
hehehehhh spinnnnnn
its so peak, i adore the stanley parable its one of my favourite games and this is a similar concept, obviously with a lot of inspiration with the main menu and narrator and such but its done extremely well.
you are a very good narrator and theres a huge amount of content here considering it only took a week to develop. this is probably the game ive spent the most time playing out of all of them. i love some of the references like the valve head and stuff, and i love the set time mechanic. thought the platforming bit with the super mega evil death eye was well dialed in too so good job on that.
definitely one of my favourites from the jam
Great idea! Like people have said, it gives stanley parable, but I can also see a bit of Portal for the vibes. Would love for there to be more secret things to find or things that hint at more going on, especially in the earlier parts of the game. Like things slowly building up to something if you pay attention to hints around you kind of things, if that makes sense. One of the best submissions I've seen that would lend itself well to an expanded full game for sure!
Stunning game within a game within a game within a game! Good job making all this in only a week! PLEASE tell me you've played Stanley Parable, reminds me so much of that haha, amazing job!!
Told you I'd get around to commenting eventually. Played through and am now free to spin forever without a care in the world for winning :D
I see lots of people comparing this to Stanley Parable, which I know nothing about, so this is my first experience with a game like this. And on the whole, it's pretty good! The fact that I stuck with this to the end (despite its length) is a testament to how solidly you executed this concept. The control scheme is nice, and the physics are all really well done. Normally I would comment on visuals like this being bland (and I do think you could've done something to spruce them up—say, an outline shader), but I think the simpler visuals fit this kind of game perfectly. It's very much a small-scoped jam game, and the visuals fit that concept well.
The little details are also quite a delight: the control scheme UI in the bottom left (means I don't have to go to the itch.io page to figure out the controls), burst of confetti and accompanying sound effect when the player's victorious, the little objects in the birthday room being interactable, etc.
I do have a few things I think could be improved though. Generally, I think the game starts off too slow. I found some charm in the differences in the physics objects (e.g., I liked seeing the table cartoonishly fall apart when I removed the screw, as if it were a Roblox object), but it didn't feel truly engaged until the first platforming segment. In general, I wish the game built on these platforming bits more. There are only two—the first one and then the "final" boss (my favorite room)—but this easily could've been a mechanic that was expanded upon for at least a couple of extra rooms. (Yes, I know I'm biased by my love for platformers. But hey, I know my preferences.)
I also think that after the strong middle portion, the game quickly wears out its welcome. I was ready for the game to be done after the final boss room, but after it kept going for what felt like forever, I started getting exhausted. There's only so much you can pull the "now it's over" trick before the player gets tired of it, especially if there isn't that much to the gameplay itself. This isn't a knock against the rooms after the final boos though; I found a lot of them really creative. Even so, I think some of the rooms in the game could be cut to make the flow of the game a bit snappier.
Speaking of flow, the game's narrative is fun but lacks a strong sense of momentum. Initially I thought we were going to become a sort of assistant to the narrator to help them do tasks, but that ended up going nowhere. Afterwards, the narrative just keeps flip-flopping between "narrator thinks he realizes what the player wants" and "narrator angry when player keeps coming back". Eventually we get to this "narrator is disappointed in himself", but even that plot beat gets repeated. This back-and-forth contributes to the exhaustion I described earlier in the latter part of the game. The narrative concept is definitely great, but the repetition and inconsistent direction brings it down a bit for me.
Moving onto audio, it's generally really good! I mentioned liking the victory sound, and I also thought the audio in the final boss room is great (have I mentioned that it's my favorite room?). I have two suggestions on this front: (1) spinning itself should have audio feedback, not just winning, and (2) as others have mentioned, your voice is really quiet! I was playing this in VC with my friend and still struggled to hear you even after I turned down his voice a lot.
Lastly, as a previous commenter mentioned, lemme spin that red valve on the menu!
I know this comment is much more criticism than praise, but trust me when I say I liked this game! If I didn't I definitely wouldn't have played through for the full length. Definitely one of the better games in this jam, and a super creative take on the theme. I hope Juniper checks it out!
Best Game by far.
LMAO
can i assume you liked the game from this comment? and if you did i would like to know more about what you think haha
and to which room did you manage to get
Very cool game and great use of the theme, the platforming sections could use some work, but other than that pretty cool!
the game seemed cool, but sadly requires a scroll wheel so no trackpad gaming for me :( the part of the game I did experience was nice though!
doesnt it act like a wheel if you put two fingers in the middle
Okay, I'm glad I decided to play this one. I really enjoyed the stanley parable vibes of a narrator talking about what you are doing, and being able to sort of go against the narrator. I really like the experience, really nicely done.
I don't think the visuals were bad, kind of an aesthetic you went for with the blank rooms. But there was definitely room for improvement--in the maze room, in the distance I could see light seeping through between the walls and floors. The room with the big eye shooting a laser at you, while I get it it's a big fat laser, was way too bright I actually looked away from my screen or turned my character to face a safe wall.
In terms of audio, I like your choice of sfx when the player spins a thing that was nice and satisfying, and that it was just the narrator's voice most of the time. IMO what I think could be improved here is consistent volume throughout all the levels (perhaps sometimes you spoke louder or were sitting further away from the mic), and pronouncing your words better helps players understand better (this can be a factor at times if the player is busy trying to figure something out and not trying to pay attention to the narrator, a clearer speech makes it less effort required for the player to be able to listen.
Platforming, I mentioned this in the discord, but maybe the platforming for the pencil room could have benefited from a little more time making it a little more forgiving, especially since your game is not necessarily about being good at platforming.... I didn't struggle with the second platforming level. OR maybe I'm just terrible at platforming (which I am), and no one else faced this issue, in which case just ignore this paragraph :D
IIRC I read that you are considering making this an actual game on steam, then I would just request to have a mouse sensitivity and/or FOV slider in your menu. Oh and if you do put it on steam, you might need to change the head with the valve...lol.
The last thing ofc was the totally black room - nothing about it made me think I could leave the game and it would save my progress. Perhaps if this was a loading hint or a hint on the wall on the first levels, then the player might have considered leaving and going back into the game.
In the end, I'm very happy I tried your game. Definitely the most unique game I've played during the jam, even if I am a little motion sick from it. Great job man!
Very creative! Definitely reminded me of the stanley parable but still a really fun spin on the idea! The game could definitely benefit from some better visuals but otherwise gameplay-wise no complaints really.
I was told it takes 2 mins to beat
And it only took 2 mins!
I know it might be a joke (which i like)
But in case its not, try to play again, there is a bit more then 2 minutes🤫 its worth it
The comment was made in the form of the joke. Maybe i shouldve spinned a better one out
Great game! I like the out of the box puzzle solving, and hope that there is more of that in the steam release. The story is great - I love how each puzzle builds off of the last, with clues hidden on walls in red.
A really unique game I enjoyed, I especially loved how if you picked up the beyblade or the bottle cap the bottle and spinner would teleport over into your hand!
Im not quite sure if this is a sarcastic comment, but im happy to hear you enjoyed it! And im indeed aware that if you try to pick an object that is split to 2 parts the main part will always teleport to you hand haha. Can i ask if you finished the game? And if no in which point did you stop?
The ! might have made it seem sarcastic but it wasn't, I just found it really funny. I stopped playing at the slot machine because I had to go.
Oh i understand haha, thank you for clarifying :)
hope you will keep playing once you have time, I promise it gets better haha
Okay. I finally beat the game. Incredible!! the narration is top tier and I really like the gameplay. I was really bad at the parkour section (I could never beat Destiny raids because of parkour either) but it was still fun. If only I hadn't cared so much about winning :((. Devastating. Overall, peak game!!! Really loved it
