Improvement Summary
Added better tutorial, as well as a few level design changes. (There's at least two swag routes now, and you can play the level backwards if you wanted to for some reason).

Fun mechanic for a platformer! The freeze mechanic was done well but it is hard to tell how long it will last. I also didn't realize until later in the game that you can run while freezing. Puzzles were challenging but possible once you understand the freeze mechanics. Overall game ran well and you have a good base to build on, good job.

I like the recent update. There is now enough in the game to get a feel for the mechanic. I was able to get through to the end. It took me a few deaths at the start to get a feel for the controls and movement, but then it felt fine. The level layout was a decent amount of challenge for a short jam demo showing off the game mechanic. I'm used to air dash and double jump, but can't think of playing another game with an air glide, and only being able to do the second jump from the glide state. It is an interesting mechanic, and with good puzzle design can be fun. I would add other abilities so the gameplay doesn't get too repetitive, but this does feel like a good mechanic to be part of a platformer's base set of abilities. I like the umber of checkpoints you have, especially for an early demo. It lets the player do more experimenting, without needing to redo the whole level, even if it is short. A bit more explanation/tutorial would be good, but this was decent for such an early state.

Completed the game quite quickly.

Things I liked:

  • Art is nice to look at
  • Music is fitting
  • Freeze mechanic is a cool concept.

Things to improve:

  • It should be explained that freeze can only be used once per jump.
  • Freeze duration is unclear. There should be an indicator for this somewhere.
  • It took some deaths to realize how the freeze mechanic works. Again easily solvable by some better explanation.

The gliding was the most fun but it lasted such a little time that it became annoying. I would genuinely enjoy a game with longer gliding. (The level difficulty could be made around it)

Improvement summary says added levels but I can only play one? Maybe it is a code related update but I do not know how to rate progress based on just this.

I'll add a better explanation for the freeze mechanic and make it last longer. Also by levels I meant the checkpoints (before the game only had one platform).

I made a better tutorial

I will retest it today!

I could not get past the spike traps in the clouds, your "freeze" ability has a bit of a short active time, and does not give you much leeway to not be exactly right.

The mechanic of maintaining your height and gliding across, I think is a cool concept and could be part of a fun game. I'm not sure if I'd enjoy a game with that being the only move.

The general movement feels decent, unless you are doing the freeze when it becomes a little jerky and un-responsive at quick time adjustments.

I think that freeze might not be the best name for the ability as when I first saw this I thought that my character would become an ice cube or do something along those lines.

I'm planning on extending the time for the freeze ability to likely around half a second. I am planning on adding more abilities in the future, but they probably wont make it into this jam.

I’ll also add a better explanation for it in game

Your games web page starts with "Same controls as my past games.". As someone who has not played your past games, I have no idea what those controls are. You should make each game page standalone with all the info players need for it. Many people aren't going to want to go looking through other projects to find the controls. I am writing this before playing, so maybe the controls are shown in game, but his is my first reaction to seeing that text.

Upon starting there is text that says "Press X or / to FREEZE!". Pressing either button does nothing. No other controls are mentioned. Your game pages mentions the "cool move" can only be done in the air, so I jumped and pressed X, and it did something. I would suggest adding some text with the basic controls above the start, along with updating the exiting text to "Press X or / while in the air to FREEZE!", or something similar making it clear it only works while jumping/in the air.

The mechanic of maintaining your height and gliding across, almost like an air dash, is something I have seen in plenty of platformer games and can be part of a fun game. I'm not sure if I'd enjoy a game with that being the only/core move, but as part of a normal set of platformer moves it is nice to have, especially as something you unlock as you play. I often associate air dash alongside double jump as good companion abilities. You implementation seems to work fine. I tried it several times and was not able to make it to the flag over the ice, but I see that there is just a cliff after that, so it looks like even if I did make it, it would be the end anyway. The general movement also feels decent, from what I can test in the small area. There would need to be more to the level to really get a good feel for how it works with the level design, as that can have an impact on how good everything feels as a whole.

I just uploaded it with more content, and I took into account your feedback. I will be planning on adding more mechanics later (most likely in the next feedback jam). Also the freeze mechanic makes it act as if you are on the ground, allowing you to have a second jump.

It feels like a double jump with extra steps.
I don't really see this being added into a game. But who knows mby I am wrong.
