Have you checked that your GDD is publicly accessible ?
Yes

Is your game set to public on itch.io so we can see it?
Yes

Summarize your game!
A little top-down, inspired by flOw, where you play as a ferret that wishes to make an omelette by stealing eggs from the surrounding chickens.

Please explain how your game fits the theme.
In order to move downwards, you must sacrifice an egg! This level transversal allows you to find more interactable (non-blurred) chickens and steal THEIR eggs. Finally, you have to bring your eggs to the (kinda bugged) campfire skillet to make your omelette and win.

Did you use Generative AI to make any assets in your game?
No

Thanks for making your game! I'd glad you got to produce something in-line with a childhood fav of yours.

I found that the hit detection was very inconsistent, so I wouldn't know if I was going to bite a target or not. Same is true for the grabbing of eggs.

Good for you for trying blur to add depth...keep working at it!

I was never able to transverse a level, but it sounds like a cool concept.

Developer

I found out the hit detection was inconsistent on the html build, but not on test build,  so I'm pretty sure it's something I don't understand yet for browser. WELP. Yeah, I spent so much time trying to figure out the blur thing, and then it looked nothing like how I wanted it to LOL. Thank you for playing! (Shift down to go down a level, you always start at level 4, and each level transversal costs an eggy)

I managed to win, but the mechanics were a little confusing.

The entire point of the game seems to be figuring out how to end up with 4 eggs at the lowest level. If you find a chicken that you can interact with and fill up on eggs, you’ll be tempted to go all the way down but that results in losing all your eggs so what you should do is drop one level at a time, picking up replacement eggs along the way.

This whole thing is kind of unintuitive because you can’t really differentiate the levels. It just looks like youre on the ground surrounded by blurry chickens when you start the game. I would never have figured out that I was somehow floating in mid air and had to fly my way down by consuming raw eggs lol.

I think the game would have worked better if you removed the levels thing entirely and just had to steal the eggs. The game has functional combat and trying to steal the eggs from the chickens is pretty fun, except for the fact that the eggs all disappear for some reason if you kill the chicken.

Maybe you could’ve used those green block/grass areas as the levels that you physically climb up and down from, adding a bit of verticality to the 2d gameplay rather than the abstract concept of floating ferrets and chickens.

Strangeness aside, moving around and collecting eggs was pretty fun, the graphics were nice, and the BGM was a banger

Developer

You are so right, I originally was going to add a little wing glider set to our ferret friend to explain the flying thing, and extra clouds and pieces of sprites that vary in blurriness to sell the "you are high in the trees and flying down" look, but I totally ran out of time and just had to add the chickens randomly.

Oooo, I have not seen that all eggs disappear bug... I wonder if something is not communicating correctly... hmmm.

Although I have my heart set on the weird transversal system (learning godot shaders through it. My brain hurts), Thank you so much for sticking through the jank and giving mah game a try!

Very cute game! The ferret is especially adorable. Had fun playing it once we were able to figure out the controls, went to the comments and saw someone mentioned Shift instead of Spacebar. Struggled to find campfire, would recommend maybe adding some kind of arrow or marker to help players find it easier? Other than that, fun and hopeful to see more!

Edit: We really liked your GDD! Very comprehensive and a fun relatable read.

Developer

Thank you, you are a hero for posting this as I had no idea I accidentally kept spacebar instead of Shift! That'll be one of the first things I will change once voting is over. I will also add some sort of marker for the campfire, that is a great idea.

I liked it overall.

The movement felt too fast for me, and it was hard for me initially to understand if I could or not bit a chicken, since when trying to interact with some they just moved just didn't get bitten.

That said, I like the concept, and it was very fun to run around dodging chicken fire once I got the hang of it.

Very fair! Thank you for trying it out despite my kinda wacky controls. I really loved your game, too!
