Heartfell, carefully research zine. I can see author's love for the material and share a part of that love too. Very simple and clean location, full of vibes and aksumite trivia. Non too orientalistic, too, which is not obvious. Nice job, that's why we do this. Love.
Thanks for a really nice comment, especially about the research – much appreciated. Thanks so much for giving it a read :)
This is a zine made with love, one can tell. The fist page, though a bit out of order, gives us three NPCs and my players would love to distrust every single one. Also a rather swingy encounter table: Not only a 1in3 chance for everyone to get a WIL Save vs. Insta”death”, but also 2 or 12 hungry wolves, we’ll see.
The dungeon itself is quite simply made room wise, but packed full with lore.
Unfortunately all the build up isn’t resolved on the last page:
Why are the things the two sages want in rooms named after the other?
Why is RW Arwe? Are all three avatars? But why is only one alive in the tomb?
Who are the two monarchs shown side by side?
What’s in the well?
This module is presented about a half way done. As such, it’s a beautiful glance in a world few of us delve into normally, but stays unfinished.
thank you for the thoughtful comments :)
Really nice cover and interesting NPCs. Also, nice use of the title both as a regional hazard during travel, and for what seems like some good amount of research for inspiring the themes of the adventure.
Great art and NPCs. Solid idea
I really like how the potential of whatever might be hidden in the tomb is the draw for risking the dangers of the canyon. On that note, this seemed to be the case from what I read, but once someone is conscripted to guard the tomb, have they lost their mind to the music forever? I really enjoyed that the favors owed to each cave dweller were not in the section of the tomb you would associate with them, it was nice to see the juxtaposition of their distrust for each other with their unknowing dependence on getting what they desire from others.
I think if this had improved layout and information presentation, it would be overall considered a higher-ranking entry. The writing is good, and the art has a really unique, raw vibe to it.
I like that you can cut out the pieces, but I wasn't sure exactly what to do with them. At first, I thought you'd show where the characters were on the map, but they're too big.
I also love the ethiopic script and (I assume) mythology. A really underserved region in TTRPGs.
I really enjoyed how you wrote the characters and great art! A special treat.
Neat canyon and tomb adventure!
A few favorite things:
“Easily spotted […] doing his daily stretches in the nude.” Nice, haha.
