Aliens as monsters = always a wonderful trope. The inklings work well as a reason to douse torches. I agree with a comment below: the councilmembers can work as pregens for a non-funnel version.
Nice little adventure with cool Gravity Falls vibes. The structure is supported by a succinct timeline, good work. What I would do when running it: instead of a funnel, I would just use the council as pre-gens.
It would have been nice to see a bit more time spent on the details of the adventure! That said I like that you've made a funnel and I like the detail that is included! And I always lovethe hand drawn look.
A lot has already been said but just adding that I think this would be a blast to play and I want to rock with the smart pig build.
love love love the art, the big thick lines around the crater radiate so much power and i like the hills nearby that seem to have some kind of larges caves or divots. having a leader for your peasant crew is such a fun, easy concept that i'm shocked i haven't seen or thought about it before! gonna steal that if i ever write a funnel lol. the inklings are already a fun encounter by themselves, and the emotion-heavy way they communicate adds a nice intensity to them. and all of this from a title that, frankly, gave you absolutely nothing interesting to work with - great job!
high: the council setup is like a top three funnel opener for me. what a good way to start the session off with some Big Energy - give them all a character with a clear drive and identity and let them argue for a little while. big fan
low: i think for me what i'm looking for in a funnel is a bespoke death trap experience. sort of like a haunted house lol. i want to look through the text and say "omg i cannot WAIT for this room to kill them." this has a great setup, and would even play well as a level 1 adventure, but the lack of detail on the back half leaves me wanting a lot more in a funnel context. let me run vanay valero through a real meat grinder!!!
in-between: is the dancing figure the children dream of supposed to be the pilot? i hope not, i would really love it if that's a completely unexplained phenomenon that just happens to be going on right now. so eerie!
overall: very cool, hope to see more from this after voting ends!
“Scully, have you ever heard of the Inklings?”
Massive X-Files-vibes here, love it!
- Really charming illustrations!
- Very fun premise, reminds me of something out of a classic sci-fi B-movie.
- The council leader rule for the funnel is fun!
- All the pieces needed to run the funnel are there and it seems like it would play well at the table, would honestly love to see this expanded on in the future.
Nice premise and with charming drawings! I like how you make the inklings and the pilot like that, and there's the dynamic with the Imperfect Circle's beliefs too.
I think my favorite part is the town council - giving them each a little quote does so much for the GM to just "get" what they're all about. Great decision.
This has the potential to be really dynamic at the table. I think the idea of a organism-based propulsion system is just really really good for a ttrpg - in an expanded edition I'd want to see the pilot and Ink fleshed out a little bit. What is in it for the players to help either of them?
Great submission!
Amazing premise. This is really intriguing. I love that you included a time line with different events - as a GM I find stuff like that really helpful.
You've got some great things in here: The funnel, the council members and their bonuses to your funneled townsfolk, the crashed spaceship near a fantasy town, and everything about the inklings. The layout felt a little sparse, and some of that available space could go toward fleshing out the scenario's potential endpoints a little more.
What happens if the inklings win and inhabit the world? Do they incessantly reproduce in the sunshine until the whole planet goes dark? Will the pilot force them back into the fuel tanks after finishing the ship's repairs? If so, how can the tanks hold all the freshly-spawned inklings? And what about the containment dome mentioned only in the intro?
It could use a little more explanation, but I love the total gonzo feel to it all.
I like to intentionally leave it open for the GM and the players. But yes, if the ship is fixed the pilot will try to capture the inklings again. If the containment field is destroyed, who knows what happens it's up to how the story goes.
I think my approach to most RPGs is to present some kind of situation. There are things that will happen like the inklings attacking to the ship at the end, but really it's about the characters are their choices that really matter. Thanks for the feedback. I really appreciate it.
Really original and interesting. Very colorful, from the NPCs to the monsters. But I'm a little unclear how the players can win, or if they even can.
Love the adversary in this adventure, a living ink from space? that's interesting. I also love how you give personality for the council with only 1 sentence for each of them, love it.
