Strong theme and visuals. Looks very playable too!

That’s awfully kind, I appreciate your time and glad you checked it out.

eminently gameable. Pulp graphic is fun and set the vibes, text is on par

Heya,

I'm working on organizing a collaboration between all of the Shadowdark creators from Appx. N Jam. If you're interested find me on the SD Discord or msg on bsky.

Developer(+1)

Thank you, the project sounds very cool. I don’t use discord or bluesky though. good luck with it!

Mimicking the four-color process of old comic books, this LOOKS spectacular. And the content backs it up. The last page is a bit hard to read (at that font size, perhaps two columns would've been more reader-friendly) but otherwise this is solid.

Developer

Thank you for your comment, I really appreciate it. There’s a B&W version available too, with larger fonts and less “art stuff” for those who just want the goods without the flourished. I hope you check it out.

Dude hell yeah. This goes so hard. Love the drama of the setup on the first page and the counterbalance of Ugzor the Hater just being a chill asshole, minding his own business. Perfect balance between high stakes and committing to having a bit of fun with it.

The gull cartel I think are really key to this working - grounding the whole adventure in the bad actions of a more grounded idea (tomb robbers unearth something they shouldn't) and provides tangible group of antagonists for the first half of the adventure. It's really sticky, gives something for the party to get to grips with before things escalate to the astral realm and the star crystal prison and the mega spliff.

Visually great too - I can smell the paper.

Thanks for the comment dude. Really appreciate it. Like my submission last year, I started with a “story” that I thought fit with Appndx N works and then kind of melted it down and remade it as open-ended OSR module.

I was inspired by a few Fritz Leiber stories for this one. And I asked myself “what if Philip K Dick wrote that Fafhrd and Gray Mouser story?”

Great colours, very gameable with good supporting tables and some fun maps to explore. Really enjoyed this one and it's on the "run" pile.

Developer

thanks! If you run it would really love to hear how it goes. Did it survive contact with the players? I really dug your module, btw!

I love the route you took with the title, very creative! And the writing is so on par with the theme

Great psychedelic colors. I'm loving the sorta crunchy composite style artwork that's almost like magazine clippings glued to a page. Ugzor may be a hater but I definitely am not! Speaking of, I enjoy the NPC names. Duncan the Dim and Waldo One Eye are fun names to say outloud!

Semi unrelated, any chance for some compression on this file? At 26MB it's a little bit much with the cruddy laptop using at the moment. I don't think it would hurt the textures but I could be wrong. Not letting that effect my rating, just a thing I noticed on this ancient (only kinda ) machine lol.

Thanks for the thoughtful comments. Glad you liked it!

I am working on a simpler B&W version. Less art, bigger font sizes, which are trade-offs but I think it will make a for decent, print-friendly alternative.

Great adventure and trippy visuals! While it looks cool, would you consider a b&w version for people with some visual limitations? Thanks!

Developer(+1)

Considered! And in the works, too.

I really enjoy the colorful lysergic/psychedelic vibes but I had a really tough time reading the text between the small font size and the textured background.

The dungeon seems fun, though I can foresee some players getting pissed if they keep getting teleported away from the boss fight, then having to make their way back alone.

Bad guy was very much inspired by the Crypt Thing from Fiend Folio.

One of my favorite artstyles in the genre. The final page concern for font size has been mentioned and that aside my praise is for the amount of simple randomizations. Very gameable and has great flavor!

Submitted(+1)

I love the trippy color palette, very topical, although the text is sometime hard to read.

I love your design and palette for this. Great collage art.

Great visual design and neat layout, but when viewed at the correct scale for A5 the text is quite hard to read.

Developer

Thank you for checking it out! Yep smaller font than i would like but had to stick to the page limit, haha. Most zines and paperbacks I have from the 70s and 80s are similar in that regard

Eye popping and amusing - feels like a Ralph Bakshi cartoon.  Laugh riot, like the riot squad brought laughing gas.  Great maps.  Hey, by coincidence I almost used that same ancient temple snapshot.  Keep up the good work.

Thanks so much for taking the time to comment and I’m glad you enjoyed it. I still have to clean it up a bit - typos and such. Was rushing to meet the deadline!
