Such a unique and bittersweet entry! :O Thanks for the experience mate

Things I loved:

  • The story, obviously! It hits hard and doesn't pull punches as it nears the end, but is never overbearing or gratuitous either. Well done!
  • Gorgeous sprite work ^-^
  • The dream gameplay loop works well, difficulty is well tuned too - I had to respawn once on the final boss and almost died again but got it, which is the perfect ratio I reckon
  • Interweaving of the dream and waking choices worked really well!

Things I'd love to see:

  • Variation in the dream gameplay loop would be grouse, e.g. Slimes + Nega Slime the first level, and then some other enemy type the second, etc
  • I was thinking near the end that the enemies / wizard could be wrapped into the narrative a bit more in some way, perhaps representing the illness or ravages of time. Just a thought!
  • Had a slight loading issue, twice the loading bar paused and never started again after a minute or so wait. Eventually refreshing the page made it work, not sure why! (Firefox if that helps)

Such a sweet and charming game! IK really enjoyed the narrative and I am counting that as art when rating the game. I think you an excellent job with incorporating the theme into the narrative, made me sad but in a good way, you know? You did a really good job of putting the player in the shoes of this character and communicating that tired grief, sadness, and guilt that they held. I think my only point of frustration in the game was the fact that the player was locked to 4 directional movement, but the enemies were not. This made it so it was a little weird having to line my character up on the axis of the enemy. Maybe that is how these kind of games usually go, I'm not sure. I've never played one. Other than that, I thought this was a really amazing game and thoughtful take on theme. Well done! thanks for making and sharing such a captivating story :)

This is a really charming game! I loved the themes and how the signs you find around the dreamscape reinforce those - really nice work :)

Very sweet, good music, and especially love the art in the scene of the man in bed.

Developer

Thank you!  Iโ€™m glad you liked the old man art because it was one of my faves as well. :)

Wow this made me tear up. Maybe it's the mood im in today... Beautiful storytelling and themes. Great job

Developer

Aww, thank you so much for saying that. I was most proud of the story so I'm glad it affected you like that. It's very kind of you to say. :)

I like the style, storytelling and general design choices.  The gameplay loop of killing slimes for the slime boss to appear may become a bit stale after repetition.

However, great game. Has a quite destinct feel to it! :)

Developer

Thank you! I wanted to add more enemies with different AI, but I struggled to get as much done as I did and keep the polish. I agree that the slimes thing gets old fast, but that's why you only do it twice. If I expand this, I'll change some things up so it doesn't go stale.

The story was really sweet! I liked making my guy eat alfredo and pickle sandwiches every day

Developer

Thank you! I, too, love making the guy eat all day lol.

A solid entry. I enjoyed the story and the combat was similar to the old zelda games. Very good job :)

Thanks a bunch for the kind words!

Very heartfelt, and really sweet story! Nailed the nostalgic feel with the art, and reminded me of a scene from Edith Finch too which I loved.

Awesome job :)

Thanks a bunch for the kind feedback! I know of Edith Finch, but haven't played it. I have a good friend who really liked it though, so I really appreciate you making the comparison. :) Thanks again for the kind words.
