Artistic Statement / Use of Theme
The Lonely Robot takes place in a bleak future where a city is destroyed due to a multitude of factors, many of which are alluded to, but none are outright stated. There are so many possibilities for how we can lead the environment in the wrong direction, however, that is not a reason to lose hope in the future, and stop trying. In our project, the player plays as a robot, alone in a barren world, who, without even truly understanding what its doing, works towards a positive outcome for the city by doing the main thing it was programmed to do: plant seeds. The Lonely Robot is a representation of the impact a single individual can have on the world, environmentally or otherwise.

Development Summary
Our team was very quick to come up with a base idea that we were happy with, so it stands to reason that a lot of things changed during the developmental process. While our original idea stayed relatively consistent throughout the process, many small things had to change to create a consistent story, an difficult yet enjoyable game play experience, and maintain a connection to the themes of this game jam.
The biggest pitfall we had to navigate was the gaps in communication that came from having very separate roles within the group and little overlapping knowledge between the disciplines that could help for easier communication.
One of the hardest things to cut from our concept was the ways we planned to better connect the story with the game play, including voice acting, an ending cutscene, and more environmental storytelling.
Our team is comprised of two visual artists, two programmers, an audio designer, and a level and narrative designer.

This was fun! I made it to the moss seed stage and 2nd tape. I found that movement was a little floaty, but got used to it eventually. Great level design. The story came through where it could, and did not feel entirely tacked on. Okay with me, as your mechanics are the meat of the game. Thanks for making!

Omg probably my favourite game by far. I loved how you guys introduced the credits and the call to action was rlly neat and impactful. The art is so simple and cute too and i think you guys did a great job overall and  the game mechanic of planting a seed and growing it to help u in the environment is soooo creative! . My only complaints are i found the pressing space to jump instead of W a little weird, but i managed to get used to it and i love the art but if you guys are interested in improving, i feel like the plants u grow could do with a bit more contrast (though i get why it wasnt proirity cuz the player activily grows it so they already know where it is, but it might be smth just to keep in mind). Still, Good Job!!

The concept art is great (though in game implementation is not great), the plant growing mechanic is pretty innovative and neat too. The execution is a bit lacking though. The controls are great, and I found the level design too hard to navigate. Could just be me, but took me like 10 minutes to get past the very first challenge.

What an absolutely beautiful experience. The clever puzzles, easy to understand game mechanics, intriguing narrative, amazing atmosphere, and top-notch music all work in tandem to create a great game. I've worked on puzzle games before and know how challenging it can be plan, playtest, and execute puzzles that feel cohesive and build on each other throughout the game, but I can say with confidence that this game could serve as a blueprint for what a 2d puzzle platformer can accomplish within the 6 week time frame we were given. Phenomenal job guys!!!!
