Love the art style and animations, the characters express themselves very well! I really like how Arturo moves around~ The battle mechanics were pretty good, only thing is often I found the speech bubbles getting in the way, I had to constantly strafe around to see the attacks coming, maybe a screen resolution problem on my end? First time I tried to press escape to see if there was any display options and exited out of the game lol. Replayed and it was satisfying seeing Alexandria's final attack, great stuff!
Hi egpNoodlez, thank you for playing my game. The speech bubbles were actually working as intended haha. I wanted to create a system where there would be a sort of punishment for using the cheer, but it was an odd balance since I did not want it to come off as frustrating or annoying. My apologies for the esc command, I should probably have that open a menu first that confirms if you wanted to close the game or not.
Cool to see an interpretation of the ego mechanics of the bruised ego fighting game!
Definitely! I also enjoyed that we both thought of ending our games with a grapple technique.
This was so fun! I love all the throwbacks and references, (it made me weirdly nostalgic)! I enjoyed literally every second of this and you did a really fantastic job on the art, characters and writing!
haha time really does fly! It's been over 5 years since the Bruised Egos game jam after all. Glad you enjoyed the characters' art, since I was really trying to capture the spirit of that jam (whatever that means).
So cool to see Alexandria and Scratch again! And in 3D no less! Such a fun idea to have a crossover with a previous jam theme. The models are so on point and expressive. I like the battle gimmick as well.
haha the first thing that came to my mind for this jam was "which characters could used the most encouraging"? The battle gimmick originally had more of a autobattler mechanic where the character would move and bounce around the ring, but it was a little too random, so I scaled it down to be just the two characters facing each other while the warriors are shouting encouragements from the sidelines. Also, Alexandria finds herself once more teamed up with a slime fellow.
I have to tell you how much I LOVE the character models you made! They are so expressive and cool! It makes me want to learn how!
Currently, I only used blender for the entire process (from modeling to texture painting to animating). I also looked at some 3D models and texture maps for games that came out for 3DS and PlayStation. Although, in hindsight I made a lot of silly mistakes that I shouldn't had made for these models, it was a fun learning experience.
So cool! Yeah, I should try using blender...
Love all the character designs, but especially how you handled Arturo and the way he moves.
Very early in development I was considering having König be the lead warrior for my game. But when I was thinking about which character would be easiest to read moving around the battlefield, I thought Arturo's bouncing hops would work best (in the end this actually did not matter in the long run). Regardless, I am thankful that thought helped sway my decision to pick Arturo since I also really enjoyed how he turned out.
Wonderful game, I love how expressive the characters were! The animations were so fun to watch! I love Arturo's "walk" animation with the sound effects! Very fun game to play!
Thank you! I've always wanted to try out this sort of texture painting for models, and considering that I was also trying to invoke the style I had for my Bruised Egos game jam's submission, I figured now would be the best time to give it a go. Glad it appeared to paid off... since it took me way longer than expected to complete all the models haha
Looove the character designs, especially how Arturo's stomach face changed as he was speaking. The writing was fun too!
haha glad you enjoyed the writing! I’ve always felt like writing dialogue is actually one of my weak points, so it's always good to know that I might be improving in the right direction!
you did great; the dialogue fit the characters perfectly!
Awesome character art and animation, everyone felt super expressive. The combat system has a fun rhythm to it.
Thanks! I also appreciated your interpretation of the warriors for a retro horror style game. The lighting you had on Seraph Quartz really sold the tone.
The character models are so good! The callback to the bruised ego jam was very fun.
Thanks! Originally I was planning on having more characters/battles that would pull references of games from that game jam as a celebration of that jam, but... Scratch went from being the first fight to the only fight haha
As someone who made a Scratch game for the first jam I'm glad he's the one that got in! It was cool to see him with such a nice character model.
