Did you try to interact with it outside of post-death area? It shouldn't work within the normal world by design (like you can't assign or remove points during the run)
turns out it was not doing some actions. figured out why I wasn't getting an action in the mines earlier (going back out was counted against me) by the way, is it even possible to use the hunger god's blessing on anything? (I'm gonna go try it on red crystals but I'm unsure if this could work.)
