Artistic Statement / Use of Theme
This game is about empowering people to make a real, equitable difference in their lives by planting one seed at a time. There is an argument around the morality of land enclosure and public spaces itself, but that is not the focus of this game.

Guerrilla Gardening attempts to bring grassroots knowledge to people who can make a difference just by rethinking the green spaces on their route to work every day. The game invites players to engage with this very challenge during gameplay. Guerrilla Gardening is a relatively low risk activity to the individual that can improve the health and wellbeing, and biodiversity of the communities in those areas). There is a history of this form of cultivation and resistance around the world - cultivation of community spaces, resistance to the gentrification and colonisation of stolen land. It is the application of this philosophy that Guerrilla Gardening invites the player to explore.

The game will allow the player to explore the ideas needed to reduce their dependence on the food supply chain, and the community and culture that could develop around the re-greening of your route to work. The game will use NPCs to provide conversations to enrich the world and provide context as to the pro and con for formalising Guerrilla Gardening efforts with local authorities .
This is a cosy, optimistic experience that invites players to experience micro-level guerrilla gardening by cultivate and re-green urban environments that represent their commute to work. Any self actualisation that occurs is entirely incidental. This games intention is to have the player question the lack of green spaces around them during their commute, and offer ideas for how they could change that.

Development Summary
The approach to the level design changed significantly during development. Initially a mission based linear game, we shifted to a more metroidvania style level. The pitfalls were around sprint scheduling, and this made it very challenging when we had to simplify much of the NPC interactions.

(optional) Further Development Plan
Overhaul of the level, progression, and equipment system. Player onboarding and juice/game feel.

Over all great game loved the theme, my only issue was the first person style controls I kept getting confused with my orientation. I think project zombie or RPG like controls would make this game superb!

i liked the whole theming of the game, mine is somewhat similar in that way, but the tank controls honestly fight the player a bit too much and not knowing the map or really having any introduction made getting to work or home quite difficult to do. it's informative too and may be helpful to many people to learn what they can do for their communities, so good job, although it could definitely use much more polish.

This was neat! A touch mechanical for my taste. I think an upgrade mechanic, or something like it, would be a great way to show the player progressing in their guerilla gardening tactics. Not automation necessarily. The controls are tank/forward-facing cam hybrid and are not intuitive (to me at least) and made the seed planting minigame feel a little more finnicky than I think you all were going for. I see the vision, though. Thanks for making!

Fun game and really informative, learnt more about the different conditions needed for plants and their care than I have from just reading about them. I think it fits the theme of the challenge well, while making it easy to learn how to actually plant plants. An intro for the controls would be helpful but it's straight forward enough to pick up while playing around, 8/10 would play again.

I’d give the game a 9/10! 🔥 I really enjoyed it and I think you did a great job with the design and overall experience.

The only things I’d suggest are adding a small tutorial at the beginning to help players understand the mechanics, and maybe considering another movement/control option besides relying mainly on the mouse, since that might not feel comfortable or easy for some players.

Overall, though, the game is really fun and has a lot of potential. Great job! ❤️

I really loved the art and design of your game! 😄 Did you create all the art yourself, draw it from scratch, or work with an artist?

I’m also working on pixel art, but I’m honestly not very good at it yet 😂. I’d really appreciate your advice because I want to add a brand-new boss fight to my game that looks more professional and unique.

Any tips on how you approached the art would help me a lot! ❤️

Really fun concept and the visuals look great from the screenshots, I unfortunately had the same issue as the previous commenter where I could not get past the main menu as the play button doesn't seem to work. I'm really excited to get to play it as it caught my eye from the beginning so great work on the visuals again and a really lovely concept.

Thanks for the kind words! We have reuploaded the build, the bug having been fixed. Please enjoy.

I really liked the concept and the environmental theme 🌱 The presentation looks promising, and I was excited to try the game.

Unfortunately, I couldn't get past the main menu. The Play button responds visually when clicked, but it doesn't actually start the game. I also tried using the keyboard, but I still couldn't get into the gameplay.

I hope you can fix this issue because I'd genuinely like to see what you created. Great concept, and I wish I could have played it! 🎮🌱
