For me X is visually different (his buster hand is red) but the weapon itself behaves the same for me as well. No idea what change/effect it should have.
I was dumb it turned out the upgrade is just faster charge and you can have 4 shots on screen at the same time lol, I didn't read the description thoroughly when I got it, just saw multiple shots and thought i was getting something fancier.
