is this a "lose to progress" / "get raped to see content" game that 99% of fem protag games tend to be? not interested in either so would rather be warned in advance if its going to be undesirable

Yes and no. Nightmares of the Moon is a sandbox/RPG including the usual mini-games/systems that will give content depending on your actions and stat-management. Aside from the sandbox events, a lot of more narrative driven events are planned depending on your choices only. (Usual AVN style.)
Although the game will definitly lean toward corruption/slow burn content.
The game is out in a couple of days, you are always invited to try it out for yourself as the game offers a uniquely narrative driven experience :)
