Upon startup, I love that sound but I did notice after a while that it got a little old and I ended up turning it off. I would've liked to see more sound-based feedback like the title screen seemed to have (gorgeous title screen btw).
The weapon system feels nice but combat is just hard. Not because of the difficulty, that's fine. But it's very clunky, I also felt it got difficult way faster than I could acquire more gear so I ended up killing a LOT of enemies just with fists. Melee enemies felt like not a threat at all because they attacked too slowly, the only real threat were the crossbowlads throughout. I feel like with a more balanced enemy repertoire on the level of those crossbowmen, the game would have a ton more potential and difficulty
Great art style and really satisfying combat feedback. It's a lot of fun cutting down monsters and descending deeper!
The audio is great too. I especially liked how the music changes between floors — it really helps build excitement, and the tracks fit very well.
I was a bit confused by the weapon system, though. Ten weapons feels like a lot to memorize as a sequence, and I didn't really feel much connection between them. Because of that, the sense of progression felt a little unclear to me.
Overall, it's a polished game with a strong style of its own.
I love love love it! I reached Level 167 and there was good enough variety for enemies. I just loved using punch for the levels because dodging and hitting on repeat seems to be the meta here. And yeah, I died at Level 167 because I failed to see the concrete block blocking my way in the middle lel. Very very addicting.
There's different audio after a few floors which is good. There's also walls to hide behind once you reach a higher amount of levels. And the fact that I realized that you have to kill an enemy to switch weapons way later makes me feel like I learned something after playing for a while which is good.
The only thing missing in this game is to tell the players what button to press to start attacking because I had to read another review here to know that it's left click.
Thanks for such a wonderful game. Would play this a lot on my free time. It's just too good.
Sound effects and audio are really good. What the game needs most urgently is a bit of tutorial. I had the "tutorial" turned on, but the information I got was very sparse. I figured how to hit (after a while, at first the game looked like it's controlled only by keyboard, so I was surprised that the mouse is involved here). I could not select the weapon. No idea, how to do that. (The weapon symbols are also very small and difficult to distinguish.) The controls are quick and responsive, even in the web play on my Firefox.
Another point I would improve is the geometry of the level design. As far as I progressed, it was all a plain square. It would be more fun if there are things to hide behind etc.
In general, a well done slasher, with a very simplistic but stylish design. Not my cup of tea, as I don't play these games usually, but definitely on a good way, congrats!
Thanks for playing! We didn’t realize until too late that the tutorial was broken in the jam release 😢 We just pushed a new updated v2.0.1 that fixes the tutorial, along with some combat rebalancing that I think makes the game experience much more polished.
If you check it out, we’d love to hear your thoughts!
