It corresponds to the couple role, but I always forget if it refers to Gil (or someone else) or to oneself... choose whichever you want, certain related interactions will have dialogues that correspond to the role.
[EDIT: I've read the older informations in the guide and it does say that the top/bottom are going to the love interest and not to Walter!]
