My first playthough of any game is generally to see how intuitive it is.
So I started playing. I got WASD movement, I accidentally figured out that Q and E rotate the camera 90', The ability to see through walls, white impressive on a technical level, doesn't really help much. Logically the character should see more than a few feet around them.
I accidentally grabbed and moved one of the cabinets, not sure how.
I think a kid got killed, and then a few moments later I see that I won the game.... HOW?
So my second playthrough comes after actually reading the instructions. I'm glad they're in-game in the help menu but it takes a bit too much to get there. In-game teaching is usually the best way to go. A graphic showing the layout would help, or even a way to rebind controls. In addition to 1-4 change kids, a "next kid" and "previous kid" button could help if mapped to a gamepad.
This time I hid one kid in a cabinet. Then i switched to another kid and hid them in the cabinet. Then I was playing as a third and couldn't hide, so I started dragging some furniture towards the door. Then.. I won. The last kid I never played as, and I also never saw them get killed.
So, as far as gameplay goes, I can't say I'm a real fan. I didn't really feel like I had any control over if I win or lose. I'm not even sure I can lose on purpose.
The menu navigation is clunky. The X's to exit both look and are placed weird.
But on the positive side, I have to say the characters design an animation as superb. Object modeling as well. The see-through effect as I mentioned wasn't well executed, but it was impressive to pull off. Sound, while minimal, was well-done and effective.
For your next jam, keep it up with the good characters. Just try to make the presentation better on interface and feedback.
Thank you very much for the feedback; it really helps us!! We are fixing several bugs that came with the game! Unfortunately, this version really did arrive in a very broken state...However, we are fixing bugs that we had already identified ourselves, and we will use your feedback as a learning opportunity.
Thanks again! And a more up-to-date version will be out very soon.
to be honest the art and the animation are really well done for a gamejam submission, otherwise the gameplay is polished but is nothing more that just place object in front of door 4 times. in any case this is the first attempt at a game jam, and a well done one, even though it's kinda all bark no bite
