Themes
Didn't follow any theme exactly, but Biological Restrictions is probably the closest. The limited options every turn given to the players could be seen as a shark's limited brain power (compared to humans).
Tooling
Godot, Aseprite, PicoCAD 2
I spent a lot time this jam to write story for the game (which I felt was very hard!) and I also used Dialogic (a popular Godot dialogue addon) for the first time, so I got to learn about it more.
I also got more practice in PicoCAD 2 to do simple 3D modeling, and I tried to spent more time doing visual effects.

It’s a cool idea, but throughout the game it felt like choosing a card for an action didn’t really affect anything. :(
I’m glad the White Shark found love!
Very cute! And I got a stylish hat for my basking shark, so obviously this is the best game I've ever played. Loved some of the text — "gently, like a puppy" made me grin so big, and so much of the "failed to eat" encounter text was very funny.
Well done overall!
This was a very cute and fun and original game. Super cute and appropriate for a gamejam in scope for sure! I loved the art and colors. I chuckled at the story as I went along. The gameplay is very simple but the visuals and audio are great and add a lot to the fun quirkiness of the game. I liked your sprites and menus. The first time I clicked through I didnt really get the point of what I was supposed to do but I guess its simple enough. Not much of a challenging game but just fun and enjoyable little text-based adventure. I did notice a couple aspects were not strictly 64x64 pixels but that didnt really affect my rating. I was a little bit disappointed that the Hammerhead shark and Mako shark I unlocked didn't have their own sprites, but maybe that's a stretch goal! I'm sure all the sprites and animations took so much time! Great job! Keep up the good work! I love that both of us had a cute aquatic theme but I loved what you did with it!
Thank you for playing and your kind comments!
I tried to make a game that uses some brighter colors this time to emphasizes its childlike silliness. I try to adhere to strict pixel perfect as much as I can but with modern engines it’s pretty easy to break away from it so I think I tend to not be able to in the end. Maybe some day haha.
And yeah the sprites and the difficulty not having much variations is something I that had to cut. I put in the system to tally scores which was supposed to affect your final success rate but it ended up not doing anything so you basically just play a reading game haha.
Either way I’m glad you was able to enjoy some of it. Thanks again for playing!
I bit Poseidon and wooed a lady shark. One of the best games! gg
Aquatic Adventure Day 6
You met Poseidon He is doing the dance of the mermen … You resorted to violence … You resorted to violence … You continued swimming
Aquatic Adventure Day 7
You met a Lady Shark You shyly swam back and forth A big bad shark being flustered The Lady Shark had never seen it She had taken a liking to you You and her swam in circles In the mating dance of sharks You will father many shark pups You will make great contributions to sharks’ population Your family lives happily ever after
Haha I love your story choices! Thanks for playing!
This was an adorable game. I really like the dialogue and options to progress the story. The art and music really fit well together, and I found myself humming along. I was trying my best to spare everything, but I accepted that I am a shark! King Shark is a shark, good job!
Thank you for your comments! Everyone should have a shark as their spirit animal 🦈\o/
You must be my fellow reddit friend! :)
I thought your game was really lovely!! The dialogs were really well thought out, and it was a blast exploring the ocean and encountering different creatures. I loved the sense of humor mixed with some fun educational facts. The music was well chosen and together everything fit really nicely. Gameplay wise, I wasn't sure if the two cards were picked randomly, as I often found myself with no other choice than to pick violence for my next move - but I guess that's what a hungry shark would do as well :D
Great job altogether!
Hey indeed I am! Thank you for playing the game and leaving your thoughts.
I originally planned to include a simple deck building mechanics as well where after each encounter you can choose to swap out a card in your deck but I scrapped the mechanic in the end for several reasons.
Similar to your game I also included unlockable sharks. If you play as the Basking shark for example, as it is a filter-feeding species that eat by swimming through swaths of plankton (similar behaviors to baleen whales), it actually doesn’t contains any Bite card in its deck haha. I thought it would communicate unique aspect of each shark species but it probably didn’t communicate well to players.
Either way thank you again for playing!
