I was happy to be able to complete this one. I agree that you could introduce some additional sounds after the first few rounds, like background ambience or other noises. Maybe have the critter change positions if you don't catch it in a few seconds, for the last few rounds. Or maybe make it so sometimes you have to run away from the sound. But good job submitting this and I think it's a solid start.

Nice little experiement - thanks for joining the jam!

There wasn't any readout for the current state of the game or instructions - I think you could have included some instructions on the itch.io page as a bare-bones substitute (something to the effect of "start the game with enter, and then you'll hear a sound, press left and right to change your position until you hear the beeps fastest, then press enter, you'll hear a confirmation sound and move to the next round if you succeed!".

Ideally these would be read out by the game (either accessible to screen readers, or via text-to-speech), but often people will include details in the game page or other places when including all those details would be hard.

That being said, once I knew how to play, I had no issue completing the five rounds.

Thanks again for joining the jam and submitting this entry 👏

Hi! A short and well-scoped game.

I don’t have many thoughts to share. I would say that it’s a nice little experience that is an achievement of your goal. So I hope it was nice to learn about Godot accessibility. I’m wondering if you’ve ever made a blind-accessible game before?

I think it could be improved, if you were to explore that, by doing some tweaks:

  1. It was a beepy sound design. I’m sure you share the same thoughts, but I actually came in expecting to feel immersed in a forest setting, by the trees rustling with the wind, maybe some birds, and definitely some feeling of exploration when I hear and track critters among bushes. Instead, the beep sounds didn’t bring that to life. But I think it’s some that can be added in post without too much trouble!
  2. There was a visual bug: the game UI wasn’t responsive to the game display size/settings (?), and I also couldn’t put the embedded game in fullscreen. Fortunately, I don’t need that to play the game. But it might be something to look into so sighted players know everything is working.
  3. The mechanics are quite simple, so I think you did what you hoped to do. I definitely would love to see a future game that continues exploring this idea but bringing some more challenge, immersiveness with stereo, in-context rich sounds.

And that’s about it.

Thanks for submitting your game!

Thanks!

I think if I had explored it further, I wouldve made an directional audio "3D" world.
