I have been considering some similar ideas so I'm really happy to check this out.

I had some problems figuring it out, especially the north vs south. I got the muffled sound meant south, but also it seemed to be moving around? And when it was north that was really unclear. A few times, when playing with the blackout, I felt totally lost about what was going on. That said I think it's interesting concept and I've been considering similar patterns.

Thanks for submitting this. I was confused the first few times but started to get it. I think it would feel nicer if it didn't restart the game the first time I play and miss it. Because I'm still trying to figure out how it works, and I'd like to feel like I at least get a few chances to figure out the game before going back to the menus. That, along with some indication of where the sound actually was when I miss it would make a good tutorial level.

I was happy to be able to complete this one. I agree that you could introduce some additional sounds after the first few rounds, like background ambience or other noises. Maybe have the critter change positions if you don't catch it in a few seconds, for the last few rounds. Or maybe make it so sometimes you have to run away from the sound. But good job submitting this and I think it's a solid start.

I played three times but I couldn't make out the word. Maybe it was a little too difficult to me, but I think an easier starting level would be good. I wish I could have seen how it developed in the later waves.

Really cool concept!

Especially liked how it jumped right in, with instructions as part of the narrative, without super long details about buttons and things to remember before any gameplay even begins.

I did find it confusing to know if I was actually playing correctly. I think it would be good to guide the user through one simple successful interaction (repeat until they get it), and one unsuccessful mission, so it's clear how to know I'm doing the right thing.

With additional narrative and a guided gameplay experience to get going, I could see this being really interesting!

Hey I like that it can be multiplayer in the same room. Which works well with choosing a key.

I didn't quite get how to do one player though. I found the hold to select slightly confusing, especially relying on sound only. I also started with the balloons hidden and I wasn't quite sure what was happening.

Nice work for a jam though and I think this would be fine with a little more time!

Thanks for sharing, I really connected with this! (╥﹏╥) the internal vs. external dialogue was really special. I feel so many of Anna's thoughts in particular... Honestly I've only played a few visual novels but this is the best one so far. I'm thinking of finally getting to my backlog of visual novels.

Just want to say your music is very nice to listen to. It feels so nostalgic. I keep coming back to it :)
