Geniune Review

So, Over all a game looks, sounds and have wonderful art design. Sadly thats where positive ends. Please dont take it the wrong way i been in SQA and Gdev for majority of my life and i enjoyed this title but there is feedback to be had.
Firstly the core mechanics and movment. For a good platformer a must have is smooth good feeling movment and character behaviour. Due to the weight of the Character, Player must go thru immense dificulty cliff to progress, which on the first level should not be that high.  Second, i know its in progress, but some sort of tutorial and a place where player can safely practise movment is a must have, to not deter future attempts due to difficulty. Good example is cuphead, where tutorial for movment itself is a huge +.  Dangers in platform games must be telegraphed to the Player best to your abilities. Its hard to do from one person perspective as you created the game, you  are very familliar with the movment therefore making it easy for you. Now onto the movment. As previous commentators stated, it feels HEAVY too heavy for a platform game, floatiness of the character is not helping this case... Now onto level design. I love the use of verticality but i feel that grapple mechanic is overused and can deter future players from progressing. Dificulty needs to be gradually incresed to ensure better end user exirance. Overall i must say game is very well made from technical point of view and looking over the files very well optimised. If you would like more feedback feel free to reach out to me, i will gladly assist best i can and share my years of expertiese with you! Keep on the progress and ill follow the updates!
Cheers

on version 0.8.9, cant finish the first level. the fact theres no tutorial and the player has to go to the setting before even taking a step into the games world is annoying too but i literally cant beat first level. i saw someone mention black flowers and theres no flowers. nothing on the map for me to gather, and definetly no way to finish the first level

Developer

These are the early versions of the game, in which we regularly add a variety of technical details. For version 0.8.9, as with other versions, we’ve compiled a list of updates to give you an idea of what we’re working on. Black Lilies and level completion became available in versions 0.9.5 and 0.9.9. Currently, these versions are only available on Patreon.

Last time I tried this I felt that combat mechanics, in particular, were atrocious and that everything felt very random. The devs acknowledged this as something they were already aware and working on. With this new version, I can say they had massive improvements in this area. Combat now feels like something that’s way more under the player’s control, something I can learn and actually engage in etc… it’s funny checking the old version I still had and it feels like these were small tweaks with lots of impact. So massive props there.

In that specific area, I think there aren’t many complaints left. The shield is a bit unresponsive and projectiles are hard to see and respond to. The green slimes being the main offender here, they feel very cheap at this point. It’s also a bit hard to read the interface with the tails and whatnot but it does look good. These to me are just growing pains and part of not having any sort of tutorial yet so, IMO, no biggie at this point.

Platforming feels a bit fiddly as it’s a bit slippery, the ice physics are pretty annoying. Damaging pink spikes are a bit hard to spot, I get caught by surprise often as they feel a bit hapzardly placed and having to restart the level if you slip is, again, pretty annoying. Due to this I ended up not going all the way to wherever the map ends but as I understand it, I don’t think I’m missing much. There’s three enemy types, a bit of platforming and a pleasant BGM.

On sound, consider bumping the priority of having at least some placeholder sound effects in place. They help a lot with feedback. Unless they’re supposed to be there already in which case there’s some Linux build issue.

I get how this can feel like “oops all criticism” so I’d like to emphasise that, as far as I’m concerned, these are all regular teething issues of a project taking shape and the whole thing is showing a lot of promise. I’m liking what’s there already and liking seeing the progress as these sharp edges get sanded down. Excited about the next release

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much! When we see long reviews, we’re sometimes afraid to read them, but this one was especially nice because you noticed the little details that actually take us a lot of time to develop. We’re really glad you noticed them! Thank you!

Sound effects and teleportation when falling into an abyss (to avoid having to restart the level due to a mistake) were added in version 0.9.9, which is currently available only on Patreon. DevLog: https://yjproject.itch.io/nly/devlog/1618382/nly-099-patreon

Tutorials, along with many other features, will be added in upcoming updates. We understand that this is an important part of the game that will make it easier to understand the game mechanics.

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! Yes, regarding checkpoints, we want to add that mechanic once there are more levels. Starting with version 0.9.9, when Yoki falls into the abyss, she teleports back without having to restart the level. As for sliding along the edges of blocks—we’re aware of the issue; it’s not an easy fix, but it’s one of the problems we want to address, and we hope to fix it in upcoming updates.

Obrigado ^^

Hey man i just wanted to say i've never seen a porn game with this much potential, keep going man.

Developer

🙏🙏🙏

Jesus christ i thought i was the only one until is searched online the movement in this game is terrible.. it feels very slow and the wall climbing mechanic is really bad

I love it, do you guys have any idea when the next update will come to patreon?

Developer

Thank you! The next update marks the start of Phase 2 of development, and work on the game is continuing nonstop

We haven't announced the exact dates yet, but we hope we won't keep you waiting too long ^^

Senti falta de uma galeria e de sons , vcs já receberam vários posts falando da movimentação ent n vou ficar falando algo q vcs já sabem mas o jogo tem muito potencial e as animações são fluidas e o jogo é bem difícil

Developer

All the sounds were added in the 0.9.9 sound update; we had to postpone the gallery in our schedule because we have a big idea called “Morphicon,” and we’ll need to dedicate a separate update to it. As for the difficulty, we really want the game to be easier, at least in the early levels, so we’re aware of this—we’re just looking for an elegant solution for now.

Hello YJ Project!

My name is Raden Kun, a VTuber and game content creator from Indonesia.

I recently discovered your project and came across Nine Lives of Yoki while looking for interesting games to cover. I really liked the concept and became interested in featuring the game on my channel.

Before doing so, I wanted to ask for your permission to create a video discussing and showcasing the game.

I would also love to explore the possibility of a small collaboration with YJ Project, if you are open to it. The format can be discussed and adjusted to whatever works best for your team.

I don't want to post any promotional links here, so if you are interested, I would be happy to provide my channel and more information privately.

Thank you for your time, and greetings from Indonesia! 🙏

Best regards, Raden Kun

Developer

Hi, Raden Kun, we're really glad to hear that! We'll email you at the address listed on your YouTube channel ^^
