Description
View a montage of this submission on YouTube: https://youtu.be/YP8njYANcXE?si=M0hAKV-mNYMGhsnW - Originally a mining fleet separated from their home, the Btelomvic have become a nomadic people who drift between asteroids, harvesting resources to power their self-regenerating fleet.

This submission takes the form of an electronic ambient soundtrack and accompanying artwork.

1. Asteroid Ambience - This tone-setting track represents the ever-rotating asteroid fields that the Btelomvic now call their home.

2. To Sleep Near the Stars - The Btelomvic ancestors were a sun worshiping culture, and so to live in the skies far above the land of their homeworld is considered a sacred honor.

3. Lost Btelomvi - This study for the Btelomvic flute represents the atmosphere onboard one of the smaller Btelomvic collectors. The ships' regenerative technologies mean machinery undergoes constant shifts. The Btelomvic flute, a traditional instrument, is one way to spend the time during a long collection run.

4. Orbital Transfer - The execution of large migrations from one part of a system to another is an occasion for the Btelomvic fleet to convene in one place. This track represents the spectacle of the confluence and the weight of the transfer burn.

5. Echoes of a Distant World - Although the Btelomvic way of life is established, some cannot help but dream of their once-homeland. To go down to a planet once again, would it mean distress, or is there a whisper of another promise?

6. Solution - For when all the vectors line up and it's time to just mine.

What a vibe! First of all I have to say that I really dig your drawings. Having something like this drawn with biro or fine liner feels like quite a commitment, but in a way also creates a rawness that works very well with your envisioned project. Then also the music was quite refreshing from the usual „ambient“ stuff but has hit the right spot for me. Feeling like a mix of experimental outboard gear and in the box sound design that felt raw but yet well crafted. Only thing for me would be the upper mid spectrum that felt a bit shouty at times. But all in all it was a splendid vibe. Somewhere between Mass Effect, old school Sy-Fi and Metroid Prime.

On a personal note, since the first few caught a similar tone, if that style of music suits your genera taste of music I’d highly recommend looking into the artist Hainbach, like in his last album Gentle Hum.

Vibe/Atmosphere: 5/5

Storytelling/History: 3/5 (mostly due to wanting to know more about the live in general and the background of your setting)

Cohesion: 4/5

Uniqness/Originality: 5/5

Execution: 5/5

Incorporation of the Theme: 4/5

Thanks for your comments. Mid-high buildups are indeed a constant struggle for me. Glad you liked it! Thanks for the rec- I hadn't heard of Hainbach but I'm listening now. Neat.

Let's go with my impressions of your project, track by track:

1. Asteroid Ambience: rough, scraping, rotating feeling. Really puts the listener in a kind of trance state.

2. To Sleep Near the Stars: ethereal feeling with the reverb and organ-like melody. The only critique I would have is the panning might feel a bit heavy on headphones, and the usage of high frequency spectrum for most of the track might feel a bit harsh at points. In this one I also feel floating, like inside water. The volumetric aspect of the art is great. The sense of weight is clearly felt in the drawings, and also the textures and tension of the fabric of the costumes.

3. Lost Btelomvi: great use of subtle dissonance, contrast between a kind of dubstep-like percussion pattern but so so subtle, as if listened from behind a rock. Really liking the sound noise design mix with the flute, with intricated background with small shifts to keep it interesting.

4. Orbital Transfer: hypnotic also trance-like ambient track.

5. Echoes of a Distant World: the beginning is fire, and the oxen drawings are a great addition after the living but masked characters which were presented before. By contrast it adds this organic quality and makes us wonder what is the relationship between the men and the beasts.

6. Solution: VVVVVV soundtrack vibes. Solid track regarding build-up and development. A great and fulfilling closing to the full soundtrack. Loving the "Solution: when all the vectors line up and it's time to just mine" accompanying text, which feels like it could be converted into a mantra for this society and it so resonates with our own work as creators and craftspeople.

Overall, I consistently got this ethereal "drifting around" feeling, which feels very much fitting for a community living around asteroids. A bit gritty too, but not so much, which was nice as it created an interesting contrast between the more "dry" and mysterious drawings and a music which was weirdly uplifting at points. Great entry and I am looking forward to seeing this people of yours fleshed up and developed further, as they have great potential.

Thanks so much for the comprehensive review, you really got what we were going for! It was great to hear where the sound inspired imagination. Panning point duly noted.
