[UNITY] [TEAM] [UNPAID] Looking for people to join a Hotline Miami-inspired indie game

Hi! I'm currently working on a top-down action game heavily inspired by games like Hotline Miami, but with its own story, world, characters and mechanics.

The game has already been in development for around 4 months. This isn't just an idea or a game design document — we already have a working Unity project, gameplay systems, original music, character/weapon concepts and a pixel artist working on the project.

About the game

The game follows Dude, a young delivery worker living in a world affected by war and political conflict. The story is a major part of the game, but the gameplay is focused on fast and brutal top-down combat.

The game includes things like:

  • Fast top-down combat
  • Multiple weapons with different mechanics
  • Enemy AI
  • Finisher/combo system
  • Health and healing mechanics
  • Different enemy types
  • Pixel-art visuals
  • Original soundtrack
  • A full story with multiple chapters
  • A planned Steam release

The goal is to eventually release the game as a paid game on Steam.

Who I'm looking for

I'm mainly looking for people who genuinely enjoy indie game development and would like to work on a larger project with a small team.

Some roles that would be especially useful:

  • Pixel/environment artists
  • Animators
  • Unity developers
  • VFX artists
  • Sound designers
  • Other people who can contribute to game development

You don't have to be an expert. If you're still learning but can already create useful work, that's completely fine.

Important: this is unpaid

I want to be completely transparent about this:

This is an unpaid collaboration.

I currently cannot pay team members, so please don't join expecting a salary or guaranteed payment.

The game is intended to be commercially released, but I'm not promising anyone money that I cannot currently provide. I am looking for people who are interested in being part of the project, gaining experience, building their portfolio and helping create a game together.

If you're only interested in paid work, that's completely understandable — this project probably isn't for you.

Why join?

The project is already being developed, so you won't be joining a completely empty project.

You'll be able to:

  • Work on an actual game intended for release
  • Have your work appear in the final game
  • Add the project to your portfolio
  • Work with other people interested in indie game development
  • Help shape the game as development continues

If you're interested, leave your discord. Thanks for reading!

If you're not too far into the project I'd love if you built it on Orbem Studio. Top down pixel art games like this are perfect for Orbem Studio which is a free no-code web game engine that had live collaboration building with built in chat feature. There's also a built in art tool for pixel artists to draw/animate/edit game assets directly in the game. You get a free hosted URL you can use for building/playing/testing and when your done you can even export the game for monetization on itch.io or steam.

I'd be more than happy to offer full technical support and feature requests as you build out the game. If it's already too late definitely consider Orbem Studio for any future projects. You can check it out at orbem.studio

Good luck with your game either way!
