I’ve played this game and it’s actually really good, but I do have a few reservations:

1. After a while, the game becomes monotonous. I think this might be down to there being too few cats or the cats being too cheap. I’d add more cats at higher prices.

2. The upgrade for the ball, which was supposed to entertain the cat on its own… doesn’t quite work. Or perhaps it does work, but it’s very weak. My main issue was actually the number of cats, which is why I wanted to automate it. I spent all my money on that very upgrade, but nothing changed.

If that’s the case, it’s a really cool game!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for trying it out! Right now the game being too monotonous is one of the main issues that I am working on in upcoming patches.

The cat toy upgrade is supposed to be an upgrade that automates the process of needing to click the cats to interact with them. Once the upgrade is made when the cats interact symbol pops up it should now have a timer bar that will auto click the cat at the end of it. At max level the cats will just autoclick as soon as they are ready. I'm also planning on adding more tutorial text and a tutorial menu in upcoming patches to make this information more obvious.

In the full version of the game there will be multiple cafes and many, many more cats to add. I'm also going to be adding purchasable items that will allow you to interact with the cats through a little mini game for a much bigger exp gain. I appreciate you feedback, thank you again.

Ohhh i see. I thought that line was the deadline – the time you have to click on a particular cat... well, I can’t wait for the updates!

Developer(+1)

I was worried that was unclear that the timer was showing when they would be automatically clicked. I appreciate the feedback again, I'll try and adjust the tutorial to make it more clear.

I just played the newest update and have some notes.

I loaded my save file, so I can't speak to anything from early game.

When they first walk in, the bald customer doesn't quite reach the counter before the auto customer clicker activates, and he sorta glides backwards to his usual table. Afterwards, he walks to and from the counter like normal.

I like that the TV and the Achievements Tab have a subtle animation when you have a new achievement. It helps draw the eye.

On the Achievements page, I have the Cats Total at 40/40, but the bar is not completely full. The bar is full on both Overall and Cafes.

On the Achievements page, clicking "Back to Stats" when I'm in one of the achievement sub-tabs takes me back to the main tab; however from the main tab it isn't taking me back to the Overall Stats page. Clicking on the "Back to Cafe" returns me to the cafe regardless of if I'm on the main tab or one of the sub-tabs, and then opening the TV again takes me to the Overall Stats page.

Thank you for your quick feedback, I will see if I can't get those things patched up while i have still have time.

I managed to fix all of the bugs you mentioned, thank you again so much, that was really helpful

Fairness Warning, I needed to update the game for a large indie game jam that is due today. Anyone that plays this version past the time of this comment these changes have been made in the latest update. These are all new features and should not be used as part of the grading criteria. Bugs were in the last update, if you want to include them in my scoring criteria go ahead, not trying to cheat on this jam so this is for honesty and transparency.

  • Bugs/QOL
    • Clicking cat stat box brings up the cat awards box as well in the ach menu
    • Tables appearing in wrong order leading to odd cafe setup
    • Fixed major bug where game could be paused in menus which will not allow you too escape
    • Fixed bug where Barista level can be fully achieved before being maxed out
    • Adjusted adoption and upgrade scroll boxes to fit better in the display panel
  • Achievements
    • TV set up to signal an achievement is unlocked
      • Adjusted so that it only goes off once until acknowledged
    • Designed main achievement sidebar to display quick view of overall stat progress for each category
    • Adjusted and removed certain achievements based on feedback and repetition of information
    • Added new achievement for cafe level

I like the new achievements. They are a good way to provide incentives to keep playing. Their names are cute. I found them easy to find and understand how to get them. I think that there should be a popup when you get a new achievement.

I found a bug with the achievements. I got the Smooth Operation achievement when my Barista was at level 29 but my Cat Toy was at level 28.

It took me about 1 hour and 35 minutes to get all the achievements.

If you pause on the Overall Stats screen then you will lock up the game. I cannot hit escape to unpause and I cannot click any of the buttons to leave. Good thing I just saved.

It is easier to click on the customers and cats now. The hitbox fits the sprite better now.

I like the furniture making the cafe look different. It helps make the cafe feel more alive and that the upgrades have more impact. However, I wish that there was a way to interact with the cafe after the automation upgrades were maxed. An idea I had was letting the player play with the cat toys. Letting the player and the cats move the balls around might help make it feel like there is more to do. Of course this is just an idea and it might cause navigation issues so you do not need to implement.

Another idea I have is making the cats move over to the cat food and (if the art has the animations) eat from the cat food.

I like the changes to the UI screens. Having the upgrades tell me what exactly they will do helps me know what to grab in what order. The idea of being able to redo the tutorials sounds good. Being able to hide the Cafe Level and Money UI pieces is nice if you just want to see the cats running around.

It would be nice if the upgrades show that they are at max without needing to click upgrade.

Overall a good update. I look forward to where you take this from here.

Open Notes:

I got an issue where I accidentally paused the game while I was in the upgrade screen. (Other members of our team also had the same issue on the Cat Adoption screen and the Overall Stats screen.) It seems like the pause menu is below the upgrade menu. The way I would probably fix this is moving the pause menu into it's own canvas layer, separate from the rest, after that, or if that is the case already, I would the change the layer of the pause canvas layer to being at least 2-3 higher then the highest layer of all other canvas layers.

I wish that there was a popup when you get an achievement.

I like the different personalities and traits of the cats, Some of my favorites were: Birdie who liked hanging out around people and would chase customers around the cafe to cuddle up against them. Bandit who liked to chase other cats around.

I like that you let players adopt cats slowly and decide how fast you want to go from a cozy cat cafe to a chaos cat cafe.

I like that the cat toys, cat food, coffee, and furniture upgrades add to the look of your cafe

It was kind of amusing how long it took me be become more than different levels of stranger to the cats. I also feel like adding an achievement at a comfort level of 5 for the cats would feel rewarding as it can take a while to get up to level 10 with your cats.

Another idea for achievements, in the cafe section, having one for cafe level. My current thoughts for the different levels at which you get them are: 10, 25, 50, 100, and maybe 150-200 as a super late game one.

A nice to have that might be more work than it is worth, but that I thought of while waiting for my cats comfort levels to reach 25, when you first get something that is added to the cafe ground, allowing you to select where it goes, whether it is preset locations or completely free placement.

I spent one hour and forty minutes on my final run before I got all of the achievements. My income and money spent were around 2.25 million, my cat interactions was around 4000, my customers served was around 1000, and my total cafe levels was 274. My furniture and coffee levels were both 145, my barista and cat toy levels were both at their max, and finally I greatly spoiled my cats by leveling my cat food up to 219.

Requested Feedback/Comments for Reviewers:

Is game fun overall:

Yes, it is fun, though after you get the automation up to a point where it is almost, if not, instant click, there is nothing to do and it gets a bit boring.

Does the achievement system add more incentive to play the game:

Yes, it does. I wanted to get all of the achievements which is why I continued after getting the pause issue.

Is it clear where the achievement system is and how to see progress:

Yes, though as I mentioned above having a popup when you get an achievement would be nice.

I'm glad you enjoyed the update and like a lot of your ideas for possible updates to the game. Also really good catch on the pause menu bug, that is a major game breaking bug that I will get fixed right away. I appreciate you taking the time to play and rate the game, an update will be coming soon!

I played this for a while and had fun!

  • Enjoyed the save option! I now play this while doing work sometimes because I know my progress will be save and petting cats is fun lol

  • Love the furniture upgrade.

  • Achievements are also nice! I found myself checking which ones I could check off.

  • There are a few y sort issues but apart form that even the phone version is completely playable. (You should probably mark your browser version as phone friendly at this point)

  • My only gripe is how overpowered the furniture upgrade is compared to other ones. Maybe the customer on click revenue should be buffed which will automatically make a lot of these other upgrades viable.

Great stuff! It is clear you have worked on this a lot. Looking forward to new cafe unlocks now.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Developer

Thank you for playing! I will look into balancing the furniture upgrades to feel more in line with everything else. Which Y sort issues are you still experiencing? I have been trying to fix the y sort stuff over time but not sure I addressed it

I haven't played since the last month, so my comments are going to be on the last couple of updates.

When my partner mentioned that you had submitted this, our toddler happily yelled out "Yay kitties!" and told me they wanted to get to see, pet, and hug all the cats. They had great fun getting to pick what order I adopted the cats in and pointing to them all when they were running around on screen.

The "Guess the furniture wasn't included" line made me giggle. It was a fun little bit of humor.

I enjoyed watching my cafe grow as I upgraded it. Before getting the max furniture achievement, I was buying the furniture upgrades one or two at a time so I could watch as my cafe grew. It helped me connect with the cafe itself more, because spending money early on had a noticeable change to the look of it. The cat toys and food were also a wonderful touch, and I would have enjoyed it if I could have added a few more of each.

It was a little odd that the third customer stood at a spot without a table when they first came in, even though I had three tables in the cafe. It might make more sense to have the third table appear near where the third customer goes to.

The Cat personalities really got to shine this time. I loved watching the way the different cats interacted with each other, the customers, and the environment. Every time a cat stopped to sit by a customer brought such a smile to my face. And seeing one suddenly dash across the screen was just delightful.

The Achievements were a really nice touch. I played longer than I had previous times because I wanted to see if I could get them all. The achievements made sense where they were on the TV with the other stats. The way they were divided into different categories worked well for me. I think the biggest improvement to the achievement system would be a pop up in the cafe when you got a new one. I often went back to check on how my achievements were doing, but seeing a pop up when I got one would have been really nice. I got all the achievements, though I forgot to double check my time when I got the last one. I played the game at a more leisurely pace, often just leaving it up once I started getting the automation to do other things, enjoying the music and sounds of the cats meowing.

I did find a bug. If I went to the Cafe Stats page, clicked on one of the cats, then went to the Achievements page, the side panel showed the awards for that cat. The center panel showed the three achievement options, though when I clicked on Cats, the right cat was selected. Going back to stats cleared the side panel as normal. If I followed the same as above (so that it showed the cat awards on the side without being in the Cats option in the center panel), but then went back to Stats, went to the Cafe Stats, and then, without clicking on any cats, went back to the Achievements page, it looks like a second side panel is below the first panel. It looks like two are showing in a VBox Container. I'll include a screenshot, because that'll be easier than trying to explain it. Clicking the Back to Stats or Back to Cafe both takes me back to the Stats page. Clicking on Cats or Cafes, and then any button I could other than Back to Cafe reset things back to normal, while clicking Back to Cafe returned me to the cafe and reset things back to normal when I returned to the Achievements page. I could also fix it if, after returning to the Stats page, I went to the Cafe Stats and clicked on any other cat before returning. Returning to the Cafe with the issue did not fix it.

I'm looking forward to seeing what all you do with this. I'm really enjoying it so far and the idea of getting to play with more cafes is delightful.

Thank you so much for the feedback, I will look into the bugs and get them patched sometime this week. I'm glad you enjoyed the other changes I've made to the game! I feel like adding some of these progression elements such as cafe adding furniture and achievements really help the game, happy you enjoyed it.

We've been busy and I don't think I got a chance to write out a review for the last release, so this will be on all the changes, and just my general thoughts on how the game feels in its current state. I started a fresh game and did not test if an old save would still work.

Shortly after starting, I took a break, and rather than leaving it up, I saved and closed. Everything seemed to load fine when I came back. I like that you have time since last save. The only oddity was that the customers were all in a vertical line at the counter, when normally, they line up horizontally in more of a zig-zag pattern.

I really like how empty it is when you start. It gives a nice feel of just starting out small and trying to build up. There is a bit of a delay to get things going as you wait for chances to pet you first adopted cat, but then the upgrades are quick and you can enjoy watching it grow, and things quickly getting chaotic.

It is possible that things can progress a little too quickly. The new achievements will help somewhat, but it very quickly goes from manually needing to manage, to lots of money and being able to mass update everything. After I get things started I get all the upgrades to level 10, then repeat getting everything to the next multiple of 10, before moving on.

I did check on the achievements from time to time, but it would be nice if they popped up a message when unlocked. If there is any indication of unlocking them, I missed it. I am writing this and a bit distracted, so I certainly could have missed things. I just dumped a bunch of money into upgrading coffee to get the last one for Biggest Sale, and did not see anything. Maybe the TV could light up for a few seconds, possibly with an icon of the achievement. Or it could be a message top center with the icon/name of the achievement.

I know you just quickly implemented Achievements, so likely have lots of ideas for future refinement. But, with this being the latest addition, and something people love to get, making it a bit more prominent could be good. Maybe your latest achievement is a sort of trophy that stays on display. It could hang on the wall. With the current layout I'd say the fir right, or much smaller above the door would be the only places it would fit, so maybe not. Another option could be to have a trophy or other display piece that could go on the counter. With this being something people might leave going in the background, they might not see a popup, but having a trophy waiting when they come back could be nice.

I've gotten 64/81 Awards in about an hour of game time. I think the changes you've been making are doing well. I'm looking forward to seeing how you handle the other cafes.

Developer(+1)

I appreciate your input so much, there are a lot of good ideas here that didn't even cross my mind. I will look at adding some of them in the next update while working on bug fixes. Glad you enjoyed some of the changes
