Hey everyone! How are you doing?
It’s been many, many years since LeeWard was released. I still remember — and honestly, I probably always will — the two years I spent developing the game, from 2020 to 2021.
I worked on it for countless hours, often 10 hours a day, seven days a week, trying to turn this little project into something real.
Then I released it… and it failed.
And honestly, that absolutely devastated me, both morally and psychologically. After putting so much time and effort into the game, seeing it go nowhere was incredibly hard.
So I decided to move on. I let time pass, focused on my life, and started working on other projects.
Then, around 2023, I decided to make LeeWard completely free. It was basically my final goodbye to the game. If I hadn't managed to make any real money from it — less than $100 in total — then at least I wanted people to be able to play it without having to pay.
And then something unexpected happened.
By 2025, I noticed that LeeWard had reached over 5,000 downloads.
There was even a small community around it.
A small community, yes… but a community nonetheless.
There were gameplay videos on YouTube, people talking about the game, and even a wiki. I also started seeing people asking the same question:
"Why was there never a LeeWard 2?"
Seeing all of that honestly meant a lot to me.
I've always wanted to make games. But I was young, inexperienced, and the circumstances in my country back in 2022 made things even more difficult. That's ultimately why I released LeeWard on itch.io, where its reach was naturally quite limited.
Still, I'm incredibly grateful to everyone who played it and, especially, to everyone who took the time to give me feedback.
For more than two years now, I've wanted to release my first proper commercial game on Steam.
But life kept me busy, and I never really took the leap.
Until now.
🚨 LEEWARD IS COMING TO STEAM! 🚨
I've made the decision.
I'm bringing LeeWard back — completely remastered — and releasing it on Steam!
This will be my first real step into the commercial PC game market, and I couldn't think of a better game to start with.
I've already been working on the remaster for the past few days, going back into the code and rebuilding parts of the game.
The plan is to add:
- 🎨 New artwork
- 🎵 New music
- 🔊 New sound effects
- 🛠️ Bug fixes and improvements
- ✨ Completing and polishing unfinished parts
- 🎁 New extras and additional content
- ⚙️ General improvements and quality-of-life changes
I don't want to simply put the old game on Steam.
I want to give LeeWard the version it always deserved.
So, this post is my official announcement:
LEEWARD IS COMING TO STEAM!
When?
I don't have an exact release date yet, but if everything goes according to plan, I'm aiming for late 2026.
Over the next few days, I'll start sharing more concrete news, including the Steam page, where you'll be able to add the game to your Wishlist.
I'll also be posting development updates and devlogs as the remaster progresses, so you'll be able to see how LeeWard is coming back to life.
After all these years, it feels incredibly strange — and incredibly exciting — to be working on this game again.
Thank you to everyone who played LeeWard back then.
And thank you to everyone who is still here.
I love you, internet people. ❤️
See you in the next devlog.
