  • The visuals are stunning and the audio is amazing
  • I really liked the idea of diving to get ingredients then using them to make food for everyone
  • Dying was sad because it ended my run, I wish I had lost money or whatever I collected. But still fun nonetheless
  • I really liked all the different items you could use to change the ingredients it was very cool
  • Is the island a giant crab? I thought that was a cute touch
  • Great Job!

Hii, thanks for the comment, we're very happy that people really liked our game, it was very fun to make (at least for me at music and sfx, but i'm sure the others liked to make the art and programing).

We plan to make a update fixing some stuff and adding things that we hadn't time to add, so we apreciate all the feedback!

Jam Host(+2)

This is really great stuff! Just gonna drop all my feedback and notes from playtesting:

  • The art is really incredible! The spritework is so cute, with a very fitting color palette that really sells the whole experience. Great use of color to show different depths of water.
  • Music is really fire and I like the effects used and how it layers and changes depending on where you are.
  • Obviously, there's no tutorial which would be nice but ofc this is a game jam, plus I figured it out without needing to read the description.
  • There is a collision bug when shooting fish which unfortunately is a bit annoying and hinders the experience for me a bit, as I have to shoot like 5 times and get super close to fish to kill them.
  • Not sure what the plates do, I'm assuming that is like unfinished or I just don't get it.
  • I like the cooking mechanics a lot, but I feel like the pacing of the cooking game loop is a bit slow, and could definitely be sped up or upgraded to be more efficient. Also maybe putting your food closer to the cooking gear would help to reduce walking back/forth.
  • I really enjoy the fishing gameplay despite the bug, and it is definitely the stronger of the two minigames. With a great use of the theme btw.
  • I would recommend adding more squash/stretch effect to the fish, with bubble particles, and maybe even some screen shake to add more juice. Also giving the player knockback when shooting would add a lot as well. Being able to hold down the mouse button to charge up shots that go farther would also be fun. The fish could get knocked back a little too before turning to meat.
  • I encountered a weird lil bug where my screen went black because I was about to die, but just barely reached the surface in time, and the audio seemed to just shut off until I went back to the island which I assume is a different scene or something.

Great work guys! Hope you had fun, and stay tuned for more game jams!

Reading other comments I now realize plates in fact are needed, so thats good to know

Thank you soo much for the feedback (really). I will try to replay to each section:

- The art is really amazing, Patoso is the goat;

- Same with the Music, Flávia/Lavanda! (She did the SFX too);

- We'll do the tutorial very soon once the jam is finished;

- This Collision bug of the fish, no one ever mentioned it, could you say how it occurs? (The fish + shooting system was made in the last day of the jam and we did not have enough time to test it sorry);

- You already saw what it was, its the "crafting table", but yes it is a bit confusing bcz we did not had enough time to create new sprites and to implement it in the code. But I am already  working on it;

- I feel that the placements are kinda bad , that's why the game have sprint and i buffed a little the player speed (but it still feels weird). I have no idea on how i would fix it without having to throw away The Crabkitchen and make it similar to overcooked;

- Thanks, we tryed to use the theme in the surface too but it would make the core loop really weird, we sticked with the "under pressure" only when the player is underwater.

-  Def will add some juicy in the game. Already added some bubbles particles (but i did not added to the fish, that is a really great idea, thx) and screen_shake code is already in the game, i just forgot to add it lol. Charging the arpoon could be fun and usefull, i'll try it later. You say like a death sprite/animation? Like a floating sprite of it dead? If so, i like the idea, if not, could you explain more? ;

- I already fixed this bug, just not in time of the jam, when i uploaded the game, i tested it and in the first run already got this bug ;-; .

If you have more questions/ideas, i'd be glad to reply/hear them <3

This is great! Ok so I just replayed to record what I thought was a bug but now I realize is just the fish requiring 3 hits to kill. I thought my harpoons were just getting destroyed. So I would highly recommend looking up what squash/stretch is, which is what I meant rather than a death animation. I think if you add a slight scale up + scale down, plus flash the fish red or white, or even show a little damage number popup it will be juicier with better feedback for the player to know they are dealing damage to fish. Squashing and stretching can just be done thru code. Im not sure if a death animation would be necessary as the game is very cute and it could seem a little harsh.

This is my favorite game feel guide as it really shows so many great ways to add juicy feedback: https://deepnight.net/games/game-feel/

Like i said, we'll def add more juice to the game once the jam is finished (some of it is already done in the engine btw).

Thank you for the reply and suggestions (really, thank you), the game you send is a true teacher of game feel, learned a bunch new things with it. <3

How do you play? I don't know any of the controls. But the music is SO GOOD! Like GREAT JOB! And the art is also incredible! I would love to play it if I could have someone tell me the controls

Developer (1 edit) (+2)

Hi, thanks for the comment, all the controls are on the page description. We couldn't make a propper tutorial cuz of the time of the jam but we plan to do after the jam is finished

(+2)

Thanks! I LOVE your game and music! I think you will probably win the jam!

Developer(+1)

Thanks again!!, and just to be clear i'm not the main developer of the project (i'm just a musician/sound designer) so credits to lukez and patoso for the amazing programing and art of the game too, i just ended up being more active here

Well as I've said, GREAT JOB on the music!

This was a lot of fun! The lack of a tutorial and extra clarity on things made it a lot harder to understand how things worked for a while (especially when you weren't underwater), but eventually things made sense and I got to the credits! I love the pixel art everyone, the visuals are fantastic! Music is great and I like the adaptive change as you go deeper and deeper and change between the dock and kitchen area. Mechanics are solid but it again the lack of the tutorial made it a little hard to piece things together for some time.

The only complaints I have are a few areas that could use some polishing. The core gameplay is solid, but the lack of polish in some areas does muddle it a little bit. The music for the kitchen and dock seem to overlap when you are in the kitchen area, so the music kinda turns to white noise at some times and is quite loud, leading to the music being a little grating there. A lot of sprites do have collisions but there are certain areas where they are layered a bit awkwardly, so the player clips on top of so many sprites in the overworld, like the trees or the tables or the crab pinchers. Again no tutorial means no direction on how anything really works, you kinda just have to keep experimenting to see how things work, which was fine but I can see how people could easily get stuck without any help in some cases. For instance, the 'tab' key not being listed to view the recipes means people could never figure out how the mix foods together without random experimentation, and it would definitely take a while for people to figure out that the plates are needed to combine the ingredients together. Also with the table to hold plates and ingredients, having six spots made it a little hard to make sure that I was interacting with the right spot on the table sometimes, but it wasn't too bad to deal with. Not having a description on the upgrades was a little confusing at first as well, I figured out what they meant eventually but some label/text to give a clear idea of what each does would be nice. This is extremely nitpicky but a small visual polish if you wanted with the harpoon could be to have the spawn of the harpoon shot coming from the gun's barrel instead of the center of the player as well, though that could mess with the green fish that rush towards you.

I apologize for such a long comment, great work from everyone on this game! My comments above are extremely nitpicky, I really enjoyed this game as a whole!

Developer(+2)

hiii, thanks for the comment, and sorry for the tab key thing (i completely forgot that, but already fixed), we'll probably update the game after the jam to fix some bugs and maybe add a tutorial

Developer (2 edits) (+2)

We did not have time to polish it enough and to add a tutorial (the problem when you try to make two games at once lol), like my friend said we plan in update it to solve this questions.

Thank you for the reply, feedback is soo much important and with a feedback this big means that you really liked the game, and that my friend make us happy.

No worries at all to both of you! This happens in jams for sure, so I apologize if my comments came off as harsh. The core gameplay and idea was a ton of fun to play, it just made some of these small details stand out a bit more because the main stuff was working so well! Happy to hear that and update is coming out as well after the voting ends, if you're planning more in the future I'm excited to see it!
