Hey I think I know a game you would like more! Its called "War of the Worlds - Survival" and is (mostly) what you described.
It does have less content (like only having one gamemode and less things in general) but the heat-ray is mostly invisible (you can still see it but it is way more transparent then in this game) and there is nothing that protects the tripods!
ah yeah that one, the problem is the tripods were basically braindead, you really didnt have to survive from them just keep check on your hunger, honestly all i want is the heatray in this one to be less B-movie laser style and more actual heat-ray style, i also just think the shields in this one are a cheatcode to wipe out infantry without consequence, they were so more intimidating when they could run before, the july demo was amazing, while you couldnt be a tripod there were good heat distortions and accuracy, great comeback to this project overall
