Description
I'd describe the genre as feel good fantasy world music. There's certainly some ambient touches with Forest Village.
nspiration: I channeled the joy in the theme image for both of these tracks, they both convey people getting together and having a good time with music.
Process: I sketched out 3 core ideas on my ableton move, then selected two to bring over to ableton live and flesh out into full tracks. I started with a loop and then built out the intro/bridge/outro parts around that initial loop idea.
Forest Village: Started with me wanting to go a more desert/tribal direction. It directly borrows from the drum/time signature found in the Diablo 2 "Desert" track which is a VERY different vibe. It then turned into "market town" with a more upbeat flavor. Then, once I started looking for market chatter samples, I remembered the field recordings I had from my trip to the amazon 7 years ago. Those turned out to be absolute bangers so I drove the track towards a more forest village direction and I'm so so happy with how it turned out. I think this is so far my favorite thing I've fully produced in my (short) music career so far.
Songs of a Forgotten Sky: Started on my ableton move, This was my last idea and I forced myself to not be too weird (my other tracks were in 7:4 time or using a chromatic descent). I was trying to get towards a 'title track' that introduces each of the characters, where each of those characters are identified with a specific instrument. I specifically wanted to try and form a call and response with this one. I wanted a bit more time to work this one, but I'm happy to release it into the world.
Software: Ableton Live
Homegrown instruments/samples: electric bass guitar, electric acoustic classical guitar, samples of me clapping, amazon rainforest 2019, Ableton move.
Samples from others: Spanish market, crowd party, both from Splice.
Runtime: ~4 minutes
Theme
How does it fit the theme?
I directly imagined some of the characters in the image while making these tracks. Both tracks submitted use a mixture of old and new world instruments from various cultures, creating a blend that only belongs in another world.

I loved Songs of a Forgotten Sky. Something about the call-and-response between the acoustic elements and pizzicato strings tickles my brain, and the use of pentatonic scales is lovely, giving that lovely "folk, campfire" feel. The mix is quite organic and lovely too. Almost feels like an OST I would hear in Outer Wilds. I think you can have a bit more chord and structure variation with your forest village track. Maybe include a chill acoustic solo section with all the accompaniment, or just a new bridge section. The mixing of this might be one of my favorites overall, making it something good for easy listening. Great job!!

Lovely OST, I really liked that rustic feel. My favorite track was the 2nd one, I just really love that kind of cozy vibe, and the bongo was a great addition. The horns also added a lot of warmth to it.

i like the atmospheric feel this ost has! The second track in particular caught my interest with the layered instrumentation (i'm assuming they're the blend of old/new world instruments you mentioned) which i thought was very cool to listen to!! I do think that the second track could benefit more from adding some kind of countermelody to make the composition more interesting, specifically the first half of the track. having more variety for the percussion rhythms could be quite cool as well, but that's about all my thoughts! fantastic work!! :))

Should be songs of a forgotten sky! it was a bit difficult for me to figure out which was which since i was on phone while listening 😆
