[OPEN] Putting together a team!

The project doesn't have a name yet, but we're going for baroque horror inspired by multiple versions of The Twelve Dancing Princesses - here's the rough pitch:

The king of a small kingdom has twelve daughters, all of them beautiful and of marriageable age. For their alleged safety, he keeps them locked up day and night in the east wing of the royal palace, because - somehow - the princesses' shoes are found ruined every morning. No one can explain it: not the princesses, or the guards, or even the poor cobblers who have to make twelve fresh pairs every day.

Handsome young suitors started coming to the kingdom to try uncovering the truth behind the mystery, but no one has succeeded, and in anger the king has had every suitor executed for their failures.

The main character (can be he/she/they, player's choice) is an assistant gardener at the palace and has a mysterious dream about the princesses. This leads to them volunteering (accidentally or intentionally, player's choice) to find out what's going on. They end up following the princesses down through a series of increasingly beautiful-but-horrific forests into an underworldly ballroom, where they spend the night dancing with strange supernatural beings and the ghosts of the fallen suitors. Over three nights, the balls get more and more sinister.

On the last day, the king calls on the main character and demands to know what they've learned.

I'm after:

  • A programmer
  • A character artist
  • A CG artist
  • A background artist
  • A GUI designer
  • A composer

This is not an exhaustive list, so if this sounds like your thing, please reach out! You can either reply here or contact me through Discord at seereeh.

hello. I know it's not one of the things you've mentioned in your list, but I am a beginner narrative designer/writer. I've been in a game jam before as just that, and I also took on a big portion of game design work aswell due to an unexpected shortage during it. I'm a big horror/psychological horror fan, and I recently decided I wanted to take a step into the game storytelling scene out of pure passion. I'd love to contribute as either an extra narrative designer/writer or even just someone to bounce ideas off of.

also, I've actually used Ren'Py before, though I never went anywhere with it, purely because I'm terrible and have no experience at making scenes and sprites...

if you'd like to have me on your team, you can contact me through here. I also have a discord.

Yes, I'm more than happy to have more narrative people on board! I've worked alongside other narrative designers before - there are plenty of ways to split the work.

that's great to hear! I'd definitely be happy to join then.
my discord is jasudas_30666 if that's where we'll be communicating.

PLS check your post :(

Hello! I'm a generalist 2d artist I'm curious as to what artstyle you have in mind? if you would compare it to a similar game or franchise as to what your goal is?

Hi! The art style I’m going for is a little broad - I’m interested in things that can look beautiful and ornamental at first and then slowly wither and decay over the course of the game’s three days. Things that can be both gorgeous and haunting.

I’ve always been really impressed by VNs like The House in Fata Morgana and The Letter, but with only a month for the jam I don’t want to ask too much of people!

helooo, am mainly a character artist, but can do CG and backgrounds(not very good at backgrounds) im interested in your story and really wanna join you, I have a lot of experience working with teams, I also made a vn game for a horror jam on my own before, so I have a bit of renpy experience. But again this will be my first time trying out GC and backgrounds still I hope you will have me 🫡🫡🫡 I can show samples of my work on discord if you like?

Hi there! Please go ahead and add me on Discord, I'd be happy to see your work!

This is still open! The team has done some great work so far, but we could still use some help with the GUI and the backgrounds.

We’re not quite up to the scripting stage yet - I’m still getting the detailed outline nailed down - but I’d be more than happy to make room for another writer!

We're still looking for a background artist!

Our head artist has been thinking a lot about stuff like:

  • Utena (for the fairytale/romantic aspects)
  • Junji Ito (while she's inking)
  • Silent Hill (for the horror design)
  • dark fantasy
  • body horror

She also says "Skill level and detail won't matter as much as the mood, so strong color composition and values will be more valuable to our project than someone who can just draw good."

Hi! Are you still looking for a background artist? I've also done some UIs for Godot, unsure if the skills translate that well for ren'py tho... but if I can help in any way and you still have a spot open I'd be happy!

You can see on my page the previous games I worked on and a link to my vgen portfolio, but personally I think "the full picture" could be a match!

(sorry my submission is so late)

Hi! Yes, we're still after a background artist, and your work is gorgeous! I'd love to have you on board :D Do you have a Discord?

Yes, I do! I sent you a message through there, so we can continue the conversation when you are available!

Hey there! I might be late, but I see a GUI artist position is still available? I wouldn't say I'm an artist, but I would like to try, if you don't mind?

Hi! I'm so sorry I didn't see this reply sooner - are you still interested?

Hey! Yeah, I'm still interested, though, once again, I've never really dealt with art

If you have any kind of Ren'Py or similar implementation experience, it'd be great to get some help!

I did use RenPy some time ago but as a programmer. I think it'll be easy to recall anything necessary

Awesome! Do you use Discord? We have a team chat on there

I do. I'm @gorodskoytip
