Description
The project was created by two people and consists of a total of two songs. The first one is called “The Psyche of a Dream”, with Synthwave and Fantasy as its genres, and has a duration of 3:29. The second one is called “Between Reality and Dreams”, and its closest genres would be Darksynth and Epic, with a duration of approximately 5:10.

All of the songs were initially created in FL Studio, with additional work and mixing done in Reaper. The creative process was somewhat unusual because the idea for the project came before the theme was actually established. Initially, the project was intended to be purely medieval, but due to the curiosity and interest of both participants, we came up with the idea of creating music that blended and alternated between Cyberpunk and Medieval elements. From there, we continued the project in that direction.

We did not have any fixed sources of inspiration, but some of the songs we used as references were inspired by music from The Legend of Zelda and Katana ZERO.

Theme

Songs of a Forgotten World

How does it fit the theme?
The songs were primarily intended to bring predominance and contrast between their two genres, seeking to treat the medieval as something distant from what was happening in the cyberpunk world, while still maintaining a harmony between these two worlds so distant from each other.

What sticks out to me is the layering in these tracks with the synthesizers, especially in the first few minutes. I like the woodwinds and celesta or kalimba that come after, but I think harmonically, it feels a bit flat in that it's mainly natural minor. Maybe include some Dorian in there, with some ornamentation on the melody to give it more of that Medieval vibe. The idea of combining both genres is cool, but it felt like you switched on and off between both genres. It didn't feel that blended to me. A thought was maybe having cyberpunk percussion with some soundscape elements, with the symphonic instruments and harmony conveying the Medieval vibe. Other than that, the layering is nice, like with the strings, groove, electric guitar strums, and synthesizers! Maybe add some variation to the notes too, to make it sound less stale over time. Good job!

I like your Idea of mixing medieval with cyberpunk. I will say that it never feels like it really goes into medieval. Sure it has some woodwinds that give a medieval vibe, but I think it's gotta go further than that. Have it use some modal keys and triplets to really sell that vibe, and have the cyberpunk parts also do that so it can really feel like a blend of the 2.

The shift at around 2 minutes, it's like I am time travelling! I really like the idea of mixing cyberpunk and medieval, and it definitely deserves further exploring! I guess it's mostly the question how these pieces would function in a game, having such stark contrasts within the same track makes it a little challening to picture. Makes it a fun listen though, not knowing what comes next! Keep up the good work. :)

It's cool that you decided to go with two different styles! Though I think more could have been done to blend them/make the songs more cohesive.

Overall I think the 2 different styles of the OST is a good idea, but I'd say they haven't been blend together enough. It rather felt like 2 different OSTs or different tracks when the styles were changing. I also had a bit of trouble imagining the story you wanted to convey through these 2 tracks. I'd say a solution for that would be that particular things you want to convey should hold a more distinct melody (and easily noticeable), or a more distinct sound. Then you can develop this melody or sound to represent the progress of your story.

Congrats anyway for finishing the jam !

Oh, thanks man, I appreciate your comment about the song.

Since It was a pretty short session, we really didn't have time to fully development what we wanted in these song (Just to give you an Idea, we were supposed to have at least three song there).

But what you mentioned can help us tweak next Jam session we participate in. Anyway, I hope you have a great Jam season too :D.
