Hello and welcome to Feedback Quest 9! My name is Hythrain, and I'm one of the hosts for this lovely event! I'm also one of the streamers, so both the game and this feedback are being done live! If you want to see the see the VOD, let me know and I'll link you to it when it's uploaded to YouTube!

A pretty simple game. Easy to understand for the most part, and lots of room for improvement.

These games normally just make attacks go off automatically. I feel like you'd be better off incorporating that. Having to hold the mouse button can be painful after a while.

Personally, I felt like the bit crushed sound effects didn't really fit with the clean music. A more cleaner sound effect would be better for this.

While I generally understood what the various upgrades did, there was one that initially confused me: "More Shapes." In my head, I thought this would mean I'd get new shapes which was covered by a later upgrade. I think this would be better off called "Faster Shape Spawn" to clarify it. Speaking of upgrades, I also noticed that the word "chance" was spelled wrong for two upgrades.

One thing I found myself wondering was... what was the purpose of levels? Like, did it just get you more money or did it do other things? If it did other things like affect stats, I would like to be able to see what my stats are.

The in-game cursor lags behind my actual cursor, which can sometimes cause me to miss something because I'm moving much faster than the in-game cursor is. Would love to see these line up better.

I noticed a bug where enemies would sometimes see their entire health bar reset to full yet would only take one hit. It's as though they would dip below 1 HP but not hit zero, so the game bugged and reset the bar. The only way I could see this happening is if behind the scenes, damage was calculated using a float instead of an integer. I would recommend keeping these as integers to keep more solid numbers.

I also noticed that when a run would end, shapes would vanish right away but coins would be left behind for a longer duration. I feel this is unintended behaviour and that they're supposed to vanish at the same time.

Speaking of coins, there are two changes I think would be good for them. First, to force them to spawn more on the stage. Sometimes the middle of a coin can spawn right on the edge of the arena, which can be annoying to grab. Forcing coins to spawn in a smaller area would solve this. Second, I'd like to see it that the additional levels in the coin upgrade makes it that the coins are worth more rather than spawn more. The objective is to get more shapes going, and I feel like adding more coin spawns complicates things.

And lastly, I think the upgrade to slow down the speed of shapes should be changed. Shapes already tend to move in very slowly and I think that should be changed to make them faster. I think this upgrade would be better if it made it that your attacks could freeze shapes in place for a short period of time. That way, it has the same effect but not in a way that impedes how long the shapes take to first get on the screen. It would also better compliment the shapes moving faster.

Hope this helps out!

Thanks for this great review!

1. This game is still being developed. Lots of things – including bugs – will be changed. For now, it’s just a prototype.

2. I’ve already heard about that typo, but I’m going to fix it in the next major update.

3. Leveling up gives you loads of cash – that’s all for now.

4. As you said – the reason the bar resets to full is precisely because the opponent’s health is below 1. It doesn’t affect the gameplay too much, but of course it will be fixed.

5. Upgrading the coins means they not only appear more quickly but are also worth more.

I hope you enjoyed playing the prototype! Btw: I’d love to see it on VOD!!

OK. So I’ve watched your stream, so you don’t really need to send the YouTube link anymore (;

Here’s a quick tip: The ā€˜Better Shapes’ upgrade is super op, because it gives you loads of new shapes which, as you progress, yield huge amounts of money
